    Question

Under 42 is non-diabetic, between 42 and 48 is the prediabetic range, and above that, is the diabetic range. I think that what is acceptable may vary per person, really... I'd prefer to hit non-diabetic numbers myself, because a HbA1c of 54 would likely mean complications and organ damage down...

    Type 2 Carbs and sugar

https://josekalsbeek.blogspot.com/2019/11/the-nutritional-thingy.html explains the bulk of it. The cholesterol is likely to normalise as your bloodsugars come down. Mind you, if you want to gain weight instead of drop it, up the proteins, and if possible, healthy fats.

    Prediabetes

Hi, and welcome! For such a short message, there's quite a bit to touch upon, so stick with me for a bit on this one. ;) Your being overweight isn't the cause of this. Higher blood glucose and insulin resistance caused that. (Contrary to popular belief, insulin resistance makes us pack on the...

    Waking blood glucose 8.5

Higher numbers in the morning are often caused by something called Dawn Phenomenon. Your liver dumping glucose to help you start the day. It tends to be higher if you've had a bad night's sleep, woke up earlier than usual, are stressed, had nightmares... If not DP, it could be related to a tiny...

    Newbie prediabetic.

Well, if you eat fewer carbs, your palette changes... Even water'll taste sweet, after a while. The thing about craving sweet stuff, it really is just another addiction. Carbs/sugars trigger the same areas in the brain hard drugs do. And quite a few people here have gone through a sort of...

    Newbie prediabetic.

Extra reason to get blood sugar control: People who smoke, don't heal anywhere near as well as people who don't. Diabetics? We don't heal as well as people who don't have it, and we're prone to infections, if blood sugars are often high. Of course, quitting the smokes'd be good, but I'm...

    Newbie prediabetic.

Hi @DarbyPancho , and welcome, Sorry about the diagnosis, but you're catching it early, always a good thing... And you're already used to one meal a day, which is really going to help...!Personally, I'd worry more about the pud than the coffee. Banana, pear, grapes, granola, and if you say...

    Popcorn Raise My Blood Sugar

Hi Damien, Yeah, popcorn is a no-go. Too much starch in there, therefor too carby. And as others have said, portion size matters, but it is hard to stick with one or two kernels, right? So haven't had popcorn in these past 8 years, knowing what it does to my bloods...! @TypeToo , I'm a T2 as...

    Diagnosed 3 weeks ago

Hi @DavidC76 , You say you stopped all pills, but are you still on the insulin? Because combining that with the Newcastle diet might make you go hypo, so do be careful and listen to your Libre. (And double check lows with a meter and finger prick). You're doing an amazing job, but do try and...

    Need help to inderstand

Considering you had next to no help with this... You've made some excellent progress with your HbA1c! So, yes, you've been left to your own devices, which is sadly true for many of us. But you've moved mountains. So amidst all the other emotions, shoehorn in some pride, please, because you've...

    Need help to inderstand

Onions are underground as well... ;) The rest should be fine, but I do hope you add in some fats and protein, otherwise it's not much of a meal. (I find salad a bit dry on its own, with some olive oil and maybe vinegar it's a lot more palatable, and those shouldn't do anything to your blood...

    Need help to inderstand

What's in the salad? Dressing can drive numbers up. And which veg? Above ground or under? Got to be an answer in there somewhere. I hope so, anyway.

Accepting that a part of your body doesn't work as it should, or how to get used to a minor disability?

Diabetes was different, maybe, but it required research, and now you'll have to find work-arounds and adjustments too... The full function of the arm may not be salvageable, but... If there are work-arounds for a defunct pancreas, there might be ones for your arm. Things you can do where you...

Accepting that a part of your body doesn't work as it should, or how to get used to a minor disability?

First, you grieve. Same as with anything that knocks you for a six. Like diabetes probably did. You go through all those stages, anger, bargaining etc, until you end up at acceptance, all of which you know already... And somewhere in between those stages, you figure out what your limits are...

Back on insulin and trying to not give up

This is going to sound halfway insane probably, but it sounds like you're having trouble with low carb eating when on the move. Long commute, long work hours... When I was dealing with a long commute, would you believe McDonalds was fine? I just ordered their burgers without the bun. Voila, low...

    Glucose level and cheese

You were fasting and it was morning... I doubt it was the cheddar. Maybe Dawn Phenomenon? Your liver dumping glucose to keep you going, ever so helpfully? (Our livers are, very often, well-meaning idiots.) Cheese should barely cause a blip, but who knows...

    Back again

If there was no need to fall off of something, there would be no wagons. Yeah, okay, that doesn't make sense to me either. Never mind. Seriously though... Sometimes life just gets in the way. And after a while you pull yourself up by the bootstraps and start over. It's a massive first step...

Anyone else with this diabetes pattern?

If you're on a ketogenic diet, insulin resistance might not show up, unless they do an OGTT. Can't measure something if you don't have carbs, after all. I'd not be diabetic if I was tested now, according to my HbA1c, and wouldn't be for the past 7 years or so... And I can assure you, my blood...
