"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

For a bunch of anxious people, the three of us did pretty good, didn't we? ;) Once we finally found your place, anyway, haha! :)

Not getting any help, not sure what to do!

The doc threw a fit about LCHF, but didn't bother to point you in the "right" direction, whatever he might've thought that was?! Wonderful. You've found already that testing is a must, if you want to stay on top of things. Test before a meal and 2 hours after the first bite, you're aiming for a...

    Overwhelmed

Good morning, @Paulcambs , I know, it's scary... And right now it feels like you've lost grip on just about everything. It's a good thing you're being checked for type, as most of us are just guessed. Tests are expensive and many adults just get a T2 label until it turns out it was a...

How do these levels look for someone who’s non diabetic but has PCOS?

Sorry I wasn't around yesterday: we're on hols and I was running around a couple of zoo's. The AN is something that can crop up in people with elevated blood glucose, and it might resolve as you keep control. (My GP showed me how to cut the little warts that go with it sometimes, off, myself!)...

How do these levels look for someone who’s non diabetic but has PCOS?

...And your HbA1c is probably normal because you're low carbing. I see the problem. Mind you, most GP's don't know all that much about diabetes... And when I was told I had PCOS, all that was mentioned was that I'd have difficulty in the pregnancy department, which was a non-issue for me. At...

How do these levels look for someone who’s non diabetic but has PCOS?

Your current diet could be masking insulin resistance, as you're high protein low carb. No way of knowing for sure though, unless you eat carbs for a bit as an experiment or do an oral glucose tolerance test to see whether you spike good and proper. Non-diabetics can hit an 11 after all too...

    Hba1c

Not usually... There's a couple of oral medications, or you could try tweaking your diet. Insulin for a T2 is usually a last resort, there's plenty to try before that.

(If there's anything we can help with, do let us know. We're not just here to make dad-jokes about test messages, honest. ;) )

    metformin and reactive hyperglycemia

Hi @Glycemic , https://josekalsbeek.blogspot.com/2019/11/the-nutritional-thingy.html is the link @Lamont D tagged me in for. And I have to agree with him... There's plenty of meats that are quite excellent and not over-processed. At one point I was emailing back and forth with a butcher about...

    Feeling confused

Could be anything. The changes in weather, a bad night or two, a cold you barely noticed having, stress, medication.... There's more that can make you rise than just food and a liver dump. Everyone sees glitches, for whatever reason. If the over-all picture's still pretty good, that's...

    Dry cracked foot

Was just going to say to listen to @Resurgam , but you're already doing just that. Excellent! Hope you get help quickly, and your foot heals well and soon!

    Best/worst drinks?

Full fat milk'd be better than skimmed milk, for blood sugars and weight. Personally I do better on water when there's a slice of lemon in there, otherwise I just can't get it down properly. Too boring. ;) Good luck! Jo

    Diagnosed with pre-diabetes

Cholesterol does get a whole lot of the same contradictory advice blood sugar management does.... Mind you, most of the cholesterol that floats around in our bodies we make ourselves: it's not coming from what we eat anywhere near as much as you'd think. (Also, our brains are made up of...

    Food help !

Ah, well, yes... It's the carbs we can't tolerate, exactly. Almost all carbs turn to glucose once ingested, so it's not just sugar, it's the starches too. Bread, potatoes, cereals etc would spike us. So... Leave those out and you've got brekkie and any other meal sorted to suit your blood...

    Diagnosed with pre-diabetes

Hi @CarlosTJ , and welcome! First off, here's the Thingy https://josekalsbeek.blogspot.com/2019/11/the-nutritional-thingy.html, which I'd been tagged in for. It's the basics of low carb, made relatively simple. And while yes, it is one in the many, many, maaaany sites on the internet that tell...

    Food help !

I am assuming a maccie is a McDonalds? (Sorry, non-native speaker). I can eat just fine at a Mac, believe it or not... Breakfast McMuffin without the muffin, just the eggs, bacon and sausage won't spike me at all, and isn't likely to make you spike either. I just have two or three to make up...

    Hi there

Keeping fingers crossed for you, on the HbA1c and the surgeries! Good luck and feel better soon! Jo

    Don't do what I did!!

Gastro-intestinal issues are a known side effect, so, no... It's not what the drug is designed to do, just something unfortunate that can crop up. The Met increases your insulin sensitivity a little, and tells your liver not to dump too much glucose. It doesn't really do anything about what you...

13 Oct '24 - Lunch and meet up in Frinton!

Might be a migraine/bladder-pain trigger, but I am very tempted... They do sound good!
