    Changing from Lantus to Levemir

Thank you all for the help! I'm so nervous about the change but I'm hoping it will do good things in the long run. Just gotta take that leap of faith.

    Changing from Lantus to Levemir

Hi all, I haven't been on here in months!! The reason I'm now posting is because of a pending appointment with my nurse. I have had to start taking a LOT more insulin with my meals lately, particularly lunch and dinner with my ratios now at 1u:6g of Novorapid. I still only take 6 units of Lantus...

    Rice & pasta

Most pasta is around 72gCHO/100g uncooked or 30gCHO/100g cooked. Rice is around 77gCHO/100g uncooked. I'm not sure where the 56g value has come from, as that seems to be halfway between the cooked and uncooked percentages. Are you sure you aren't looking at the "per portion" value?

    dvla question 3b hypos

I think they put it in because if you're diabetic but not on insulin (or other hypo-inducing medications) there's no need to answer questions about hypos.

    Frustrating Week :(

Yeah I'm wondering if the timing of my lantus may need some adjustment. I'm actually attending an ERICA (Exeters version of DAFNE) course on Thursday so I might try to speak to someone then. Just a shame that I've had to keep a record of my diet/levels for a week and right now it probably looks...

    Frustrating Week :(

If I go to bed at a normal 7-8mmol level I don't seem to have hypos in the morning or overnight (I have on rare occasions checked at 3/4am and never had a low reading). I think my pancreas maybe kicks in at night so it's probably not the Lantus alone. Hormones may be playing a role, I'm on the...

    Frustrating Week :(

Hi all, looking for some advice, though I'm not sure if anyone will be able to help me. Consistently for the last 7-10 days or so my blood sugar before dinner and bedtime has been raised. I haven't been able to get it below 10 before bed in ages, despite lowering my ratio from 1:10 to 1:9. I've...

    New here. Type1.

Hey there :) You've definitely come to the right place for advice. I'd recommend starting just by focusing on getting one thing right, like making sure you always test and inject for breakfast. Personally I find that the easiest meal of the day to "get right" because I tend to eat similar things...

Blood glucose going up during the night

You might find that taking your Lantus dose before bed rather than in the morning keeps you stable better overnight. However, you should definitely speak to your nurse before doing this!!

    clearing things up about lantus...

Just with regards to safety, not that you suggest you want to do this in your post, but if you do decide to switch when you take your Lantus (i.e. you want to start taking it in the morning) you should gradually work back to that time. So for example, start taking it 30-60 minutes earlier each...

    hypo all night!

Don't feel I need to add anything but to answer your question as to whether it's normal to come in and out of the honeymoon, yes absolutely (in my own experience). I'd say it took me a good 6-9 months to really start stabilising. Also, I was personally given the advice to aim to be around...

    Type 2 Fresh fruit

Bananas are probably a good one to avoid, as they have both a high carb content and higher GI than most fruit. As far as I know the best to stick to are berries, apple, plums, pears etc

Type 1: What are your HbA1c test results?

14 months in, and have managed to get down from 53mmol/mol (7.0%) in December 2015 to 50 (6.7%) today. Pleased with that :) baby steps - aiming for 48 next time!

Blood sugar rise on moving home

Still waiting at the moment! Perhaps that's part of the problem ;) thanks for the support

Blood sugar rise on moving home

I've recently left uni having finished my degree (for good!!) but I'm suddenly finding it a lot harder to control my blood sugars. After 4 years of living away from home I can't decide whether it's partly the stress of being home or that my routine has changed more than I've realised (i.e. less...

    21 newish to this

Hi there :) I was diagnosed 14 months ago aged 21. If it makes you feel any better about your regime changing all the time, my monthly cycle seems to like making me go back to square one every month. Gets very frustrating!!!!

    Accidental bad sugar day...

Hi there, I was diagnosed type 1 about 14 months ago. I was initially on 12u Lantus (equivalent to your levemir) which eventually came down to, and has stayed at, 5u. It seems pretty common for the first few weeks/months for your basal requirements to come down, it just so happens that a year...

How did I get into this...

What I find interesting is that about 6 months into my diagnosis I had a consultation, and she said to me "whilst good control lowers your risk of getting complications, nothing can completely take that risk away. Sadly there are some people who have incredibly good control their whole lives and...

    Blood glucose level issues

If you haven't made any changes to your lifestyle and you aren't ill then it could maybe be insulin resistance? I'd speak to your nurse/consultant. Age can affect how much insulin you need too.

    Honeymoon period - type 1

Back to the original question.... :P I very slowly came out of the honeymoon, and as I still take a very low dose of basal (5u/24hrs) I'm probably still honeymooning a bit myself, a year or so into diagnosis. When I was first diagnosed I was almost always in the teens for a couple weeks, then...
