    Pizza problems

Hi @annapanna93 - I absolutely love pizza, though I haven't had one for ages - however, when I did, I split the dose. The cheese on the pizza very significantly slows down the absorption of the carbohydrate - so it can digest over a very long time (6 hours or more); so the dose should...

    Insulin and cancer

@Ktmpedro220 - I just wanted to add my voice to the above comments - I wish you well on this journey - and may you have the strength and courage to beat this.

Vegetarians: What have you eaten today?

    No problem at all!

Vegetarians: What have you eaten today?

Here is the protein powder I use - it's called "PhD Protein Superfood" (photo and nutritional info attached) - it's a blend of different plant based foods, mainly rice, pea and hemp, and they come in a few different flavours. I don't use soy protein powder (although I have plenty of zero carb...

Vegetarians: What have you eaten today?

Dinner - baby plum tomatoes and fine green beans in balsamic vinegar and olive oil; Quorn chicken pieces in vegetable stock; spinach and feta with black pepper (and a Freddo for "dessert") :)

Vegetarians: What have you eaten today?

@Ledzeptt - I use Levemir and Novorapid too - have been thinking about a pump myself; I don't know about the criteria that applies to Type 3cs - but I would have thought that either your pancreas produces insulin or it doesn't - not sure what the difference would be in real terms, so far as...

    ANNOYING PEOPLE

Completely agree - a little bit of information is a terrible thing. People think "diabetic needs insulin" - thus "ill diabetic needs more insulin". Just have to make sure everyone around you knows what to do!

    ANNOYING PEOPLE

I completely get your point - isn't it funny how everyone becomes an impromptu dietician? As a diabetic AND a vegetarian, I get these comments two-fold. The vegetarian issue is usually the first to arise when I'm at dinner - when people realise I'm not eating meat, I get comments like "what...

Vegetarians: What have you eaten today?

How frustrating - yes, I think a chat with the surgeon would be in order. A few of my own thoughts: - Sorry if you've mentioned this in a previous post, but do you inject, or are you on a pump? If you inject, have you thought about a pump? As I understand it, one advantage is the ability to...

I don't know what to do anymore

Hey @Alex_B - not taking your insulin isn't the solution, my friend - it's going to make things far worse. When you're feeling like this, logic is the first thing to disappear - which, in turn, makes it impossible to understand what you need to do to get better. For that reason, just trust...

    Disappearing Pen

I did the same thing a few weeks ago - drove home, only to find I'd lost all my insulin, and my phone, at the same time. Went back and checked the glove box, but nowhere to be found - about 15 minutes later, I realised I'd brought both the insulin and the phone into the kitchen, where they were...

I don't know what to do anymore

Hey @Alex_B - how you feeling today? - and did the paracetamol help with the back pain? Stay in touch.

Vegetarians: What have you eaten today?

No problem @Ledzeptt - sounds like an immensely frustrating situation (but I the love Invisible Cities reference!). Diabetes is tricky enough without this added burden - but with the right diet, and a regular eating pattern, you'll be best placed to deal with this. It sounds like, for you...

    How long did it take?

Strange as it may sound, it took me 15 years to even begin to psychologically deal with my diagnosis - very oddly, I didn't even think about it when I was diagnosed; it was just a mathematical exercise for me - I just took insulin and matched it to my carbs, and led an almost "diabetes free"...

    Advice please

Hi @Danid211, Yes, call 111 - if you need medical attention, they'll arrange it for you. Your sugars are too high, and you shouldn't be fainting. I'm pleased you're clearly aware of what DKA is, and are taking it seriously - here is a link to some information about DKA, which includes a list...

Vegetarians: What have you eaten today?

How frustrating @Ledzeptt, sorry to hear that - is the op something they might be able to do at a later stage? I quite understand the need to gain weight - I lost 10kg due to a bad hypo last year, which I haven't yet put back on. My issue is that I want to do it on a low carb diet . So you've...

    Missing Pizza!

Wow - that looks amazing, thank you very much, I will definitely be getting this! - and 4g carb per slice? - for pizza? - incredible! Also, wheat free is a big plus for me (as I'm gluten free, by choice). Couldn't tell you if they've changed the Veneziana recipe - haven't been there for a...

    Missing Pizza!

Bit of a rant really - I've been low-carb for some while (following a bad hypo last year) - much safer way to do things in my opinion; but I have to admit, I'm missing pizza - in particular, the Pizza Express Veneziana (perhaps with a nice dry white!). I haven't given in, and won't - just don't...

    Bleeding when injecting insulin

Don't worry @MikeSA, this is normal - most likely just rupturing a capillary. As others have said, pinching may help - but historically, the main reason for pinching is to avoid injecting into a muscle - which shouldn't really be an issue with modern needles; and in any case, probably wouldn't...
