What is the hardest part of coping with diabetes?

As some people do get depressed then your doctor (can't say for sure about DSN) has a little box to tick to say if he's asked you about it or not. It's all part of their incentive scheme for diabetes. I was asked around 2 months ago by my doctor, 4 years after diagnosis. :)

Jim, how do you fuel yourself during the exercise?

    DUK and knocking the NHS

Alaska - well said!! When I first joined this forum after finding the website I was delighted because previously I was looking weekly at the news on DUK and getting so annoyed that all they did was knock the NHS. As with anything in this World, the NHS will get it wrong but bad news is always...

    'going lower' trend worries

I have to admit Smidge that my last HbA1c was 6.7% and my highest ever, previous being 6.1% and lowest being 5.8%. The doc was happy and said 6.5% was ideal as anything lower probably indicated I was running too low at times. I was very surprised that my level shot up to 6.7% but I did have a...

What is the hardest part of coping with diabetes?

In four years I have learned one thing - every last niggle, infection or complaint you have will be blamed on being diabetic!! I have been struggling with injury for the last month and I did some self diagnosis on Google (as we all do :)), I narrowed it down (probably wrongly) to tendonitis and...

What is the hardest part of coping with diabetes?

I've accepted from day one that I have it, always will have it but can largely control it so it will live with me and not the other way aound. There's so many people worse off than me. If I had to pick a hardest thing about being T1......... it's probably the effect on my Wife. I swear she...

    The Dangers of Wheat

Minitata - some good points and there's no doubt we are all extremely lucky to be living in the UK. I would never argue that! However, seeing a fat person in the Western World in no way implies poor. Sadly, it points to the sedentary lifestyle many of us lead and the food choices we make. Now...

    'going lower' trend worries

Another sad reflection of the World we live in today :( My Wife and I found a man who appeared to be unconscious in a local park a few months back. The smell of alcohol was a bit of a give away but we still phoned the emergency services and made sure someone who could intervene did so. It would...

Will there ever be a cure?

Back to the original question: yes, a cure will be found for T1. No question, our clever little scientist fellows are on the case and they'll crack it eventually. When? Who knows, all I know is that it's too late for me, sniff sniff. I think we'll also see technology in the future that does...

    Choice of Alcohol

I rarely go our for a drink but will drink bottled/canned lagers and red wine at home. I find the wine, normally drunk with or after a meal has no great impact on my sugar levels. The beer, never more than 2/3, will reduce my sugar levels but not until a good few hours after drinking. So, I...

    BBC article about pre-diabetic treatment

I'm confused. Why are the BBC publishing "news" that is not news at all? What they are saying about the reversal is nothing new at all and studies have already shown this. Here's the link to one such article and there are many many more on the subject. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dr-mark-h...

    'going lower' trend worries

On the subject of safety: "I am aware of 1 sadly ( T1 ) It was reported not long after my diagnosis. He was on his way home from a night out, on a train. Had a hypo and people thought he was drunk! Very sad." How many T1's out there actually wear an ID bracelet or something similar to say...

    How annoying are movie/TV diabetics!

I'm just surprised one of the major soaps hasn't wheeled out a bunch of diabetics to keep up with the times and raise the issue of non communicable diseases! What I love about soaps is this, on certain stretches of the roads in the UK there are accident blackspots and they have signs saying...

    'going lower' trend worries

I just read the whole thread and on the original point and speaking as a T1 - I do not strive to keep my levels as low as possible. I aim for around 6 but see quite a variety of fluctuation as I will let my BG level go high before exercising and, when exercising regularly, have to take less...

    T1 New Low Carb Study

Very interesting. What perplexes me however is whether or not the improvements seen are down to low carbing or education. Here's where I am coming from. I carb count and know, eg, that in the morning I will take 1 unit of insulin for every 12g of carbs. The morning is a good example as I...

    160g a day : the xyzzy/Grazer hypothesis

I'm not disagreeing with any of these posts but I think there should be more consideration given to the fact that each and every one of us is different and that your BMR can be effected by a number of different factors including stress. Also, a lot of the facts and figures relate, as Borofergie...

    The Dangers of Wheat

At some point or another we will be told that practically everything is bad for you and fructose is a good example. I don't believe the natural fructose in fruit does you any harm - unless your eating seriously huge amounts a day! The fructose added to other products is the big danger as it's...
