Covid/Coronavirus and diabetes - the numbers

Hi, this statement seems to be confusing a few different things. Those recent findings (2x and 3.5x) came from the large dataset UK study in hospitals (Paper linked again below) not sure why the references to China and ICU? The key UK study finding again: "People with Type 1 diabetes have 3·5...

    COVID 2019 Comorbidity with Diabetes

Yes, we’re at 60,000 excess deaths from only 7% of the population having had it so far (and no overwhelmed NHS) given our quasi lockdown. His model of 500,000 deaths from 80% of the population getting it (and overwhelming NHS critical care beds) with no lockdown does now look a little light, I...

    Type 1 and Strength Training

Hi @lamar92 Sorry for delay, been a busy week. But respect to you for commiting to so much work, study and gym in your life... it's hard going to find the time to do so much. Supplements, I think D3 and fish oil are good choices. Also just a basic multivitamin to make sure any other gaps are...

Covid/Coronavirus and diabetes - the numbers

Hi @Lupf the paper (2) does state total T1 deaths on page 2 at 418 deaths, then from the table on page 17 you can see the breakdown by age groups 50+ summing to 396 deaths; the data for under 50s is obfuscated for confidentiality reasons, but the balance is 22 deaths for T1s under 50 (a further...

    COVID 2019 Comorbidity with Diabetes

Yes (from paper 2,) there have been 22 deaths for T1 under 50, or 5.4% of the T1 deaths. So... under 50s make up 53.9% of T1's and account for 5.4% of the deaths. over 50s make up 46.1% of T1's and account for 94.6% of the deaths

    Type 1 Dexcom g6

HI @Martaps When you say wrong readings, what do you mean? None? A bit / a lot too low / too high? Wildly up and down every few minutes? Was it ever right? How long have you had it in for? Each sensor has it's own code that needs to be entered on set-up, was that done correctly? This...

    Type 1 and Strength Training

Hi @lamar92 So you want to put on muscle and gain weight? I'd be thinking about four areas. Diet - look like good healthy choices, but you do need to eat excess calories to gain weight / muscle. Training - not ideal to only do the gym 3 days per week, especially as they're consecutive days...

    I have a problem...

I was originally told that as well, but noticed after several years (when I first got Libre) as I approached the 24 hour mark my b/s was rising. Speaking with consultant she said that Levemir's profile is more like 18-20 hours for many (though for some it will last the 24). So i also then...

    I have a problem...

Hi - as we know there are so many things that effect b/s. Simplest way of getting on top of this quickly is to make your last meal before bed at least 3 or 4 hours before sleep, so you can take a final reading / look at trend when most of your nova will have been used up. If ok and you...

    Coronavirus letters

Hi @SoulfulXombi - can you provide the WHO advice link please? The UK govt 'extremely vulnerable' group is those undergoing chemotherapy, severe respiratory conditions (COVID-19 attacks the respiratory system), severely compromised immune systems, etc. While I agree with the govt identifying...

@steveo4 Have you been identified as a key worker? If so, go to work if you can. If not, stay at home.

Breakdown of Italy’s figures (edited title)

Startling. If we add in UK data upto the 21st March: 233 deaths. Italy 14 days previous (7th March)... 233 deaths.

Breakdown of Italy’s figures (edited title)

I think what tonight teaches us is that if your self isolation consists of taking your glasses off, putting your underwear on your head, driving around while attempting to read the beginners guide to stats, then the probability of death in a RTA is significantly higher then contracting and...

Breakdown of Italy’s figures (edited title)

I'm not agreeing with you at any point. Death rates are clearly higher amongst those who have diabetes! c7% v c2.5%. Where am I agreeing with you? Another illustration: 99.9% of them probably had Chinese names. It doesn't follow that people with chinese names are more likely to die. To...

Breakdown of Italy’s figures (edited title)

Errr... on that data - admittedly after only 2k deaths in China - it means exactly that (amongst those infected) Well you'd need a cut of the data to show glasses wearers v non-glasses wearers to make this point! Like on the Chinese data, no doubt a very high proportion of the those victims...
