Breakdown of Italy’s figures (edited title)

For sure. I suppose in a cruel twist you might contract it, but then walk under a bridge that collapses and kills you, rather than COVID-19! However, on a like for like basis v a non-diabetic who also contracts COVID-19, you are about 3x more likely to die. So while the diabetes doesn't kill...

Diabetic nurse opinion on corona risk

@ianf0ster but would you not agree that both the Italian and Chinese figures show far worse mortality rates for diabetics versus non diabetics?

Breakdown of Italy’s figures (edited title)

As we're now past 10k deaths globally, almost certain that at least one of those deaths was in well controlled, under 70. But for sure, i'd expect that well controlled and under 70 provides better outcomes then badly controlled and over 70

Breakdown of Italy’s figures (edited title)

I posted these in another thread earlier - the Chinese figures, where diabetics infected have about 2-3x increased risk of death versus all those infected. These Italian numbers look similar.

    Corona virus

This is from China, where the Infection Fatality ratio for diabetics overall is about 7% - about the same as the 70+ age groups - though I would assume within the diabetic cohort, age, control, other comorbidities give varation away from this mean.

Dexcom G6 - failure you release

Hi - thought I’d flag a strange situation that I experienced a few days ago. So after applying almost 100 sensors over the past 3 or so years, I had two fail in a row. And very odd / painful failures! So when attaching the sensor, the applicator remained attached to the sensor. Twice in a row...

    Dexcom G6 - Amazingly Accurate

Hi - while I get a warning flash up on my iPhone that it’s not been tested with the latest version of iOS (that I’m running) I’ve never noticed any issues as a result. However, due to work I’ve also been using a Google Pixel 4 running the latest Android 10. Amazing, months after the launch of...

Type 1 and going camping on a stag do. Advice needed please

For activities around water or snow, or even when cycling / running in rain I use wine gums, as they’re waterproof in themselves.... stops having to fiddle (open) and faff (stop the others getting wet) with glucotabs, which if hypo can be a challenge. For me, they give a pretty instant response...

    Can a Type 1 run a marathon at 50?

I think it's a great idea! Sounds like running is giving you physical and mental benefits so why not continue. T1 aside it's a hell of a tough challenge for anyone. But if you've recently done a 10k if you can keep building up slowly, maybe a couple of half marathons in the autumn, then a...

Could you be a PM and have type 1?

I agree with this. Though i am surprised that she uses a Libre and not a Dexcom. I'm also surprised when I read some of the things she eats. Didn't she only become aware of the Libre from someone on here writing to her secretary? I don't actually think she or her support team are that clued...

    Libre or dexcon at airports

Have been through with both Libre and Dexcom on several occasions. Doesn’t set the detector off. On one occasion being ‘padded down’ the guy felt the Dexcom and so I had to go to the little cubicle and show him / explain what it was

    Levels

Hi @mick196572 There is logic in bringing levels down slowly, but on the other hand these are very high, and consistently very high. It’s early days so you likely haven’t been told about ketones or how to test for them, but at these levels you really should be ASAP. They can be extremely...

Switching from Dexcom G5 to G6

Hi Peter, I went from G5 (I also got 14 days out of them) to G6. I find G6 better as Easier to apply More accurate readings The predictive alerts (eg urgent low soon) are really useful Transmitter and sensor combined are far sleeker and smaller, less chance of catching it. You’ll need to...

    Snowboarding and Skiing

Hi @Boozon well... it depends! As you know there are multiple factors that affect insulin requirements, and ski / snowboarding is adding in significant variation in altitude and temperature over a day. Longer periods of sustained exercise may generally lower blood sugars, but shorter more...

    Dexcom G6 reliability

Hi, is anyway else experiencing issues with G6 transmitters? My first failed after about 50 days Second lasted about 80 days and was ok (I ended that one early as wanted new one in place ahead of holiday) Third failed after about 14 days (while on holiday, very frustrating as obviously had no...

    Alternative UK Insulin Suppliers

Why do you think the EU would stop insulin supplies coming in? A no deal option is a UK choice that introduces border controls that slows supply. Not sure what you think the EU has to do with that???

    Alternative UK Insulin Suppliers

Not sure why you would think it’s the EU’s responsibility to deliver supplies to our ports?! But don’t worry the UK government has Seabourne Freight on the case to ensure supplies: the ferry company who has never run a ferry service, owns no ferries, and copied and pasted its terms and...

Insulin to carbs or carbs to insulin

I'm T1 and eat about 200g of carb per day, which is not so far off the recommended amount (at least 260g according to the NHS). The most significant way I notice this restriction is to limit any one meal to a max 50-60g of carbs, with the very occasional exception. That can be frustrating but...

    Advice on trends

With effective pre bolusing you may well find you need to reduce your bolus dose (because as you’re no longer rocketing up perhaps well into double figures, the bolus doesn’t have to do so much to drag you down from those highs). Putting aside all the other things we need to consider when...
