    Goodbye

I still remember the advice given to me as a child. It was: 'never be afraid to rock the boat by speaking out when you believe something is wrong'. That advice moulded me into the person I am today - highly principled and utterly fearless. :) Save me a space on the naughty step, please! mod...

    Metformin and me.

That sounds like a RADAR key - available from your local council for registered disabled people and often when applying for Blue Badges

Someone else who thinks like me..

May I ask how you define the chips, potatoes, baked beans, mushies and occasional ice creams you mentioned you eat on a different post yesterday?

Type 2 Contour Next test strips

No. I have 2 boxes a month on prescription and so far haven't experienced any delays or problems.

Someone else who thinks like me..

I totally agree but I think much depends on our own attitude to food. I've brought up 3 children who are all now adults and who have inherited my healthy attitude to food and nutrition. My eldest daughter, despite having a baby remains a perfect size 10, my 6'1 son hasn't an inch of fat on him...

    Time Out Time for me

As was other advice given to the same new member you mention - namely to view the buffet food he asking about as poison, and to skip meals to get his bs down. Both comments were highly irresponsible and inappropriate, while the first comment is untrue. I share @pleinster's current concerns...

    Disadvantages & advantages of Metformin

That was definitely not my experience. At the time of prescribing metformin, my GP told me of the possible side effects, and each time I collected a new prescription from the chemist, before he would hand over the meds, the pharmacist asked me for about the first 4 months, how I was getting on...

    Feeling hungry!!

Yes, because carbs are addictive! Full fat Greek yoghurt (not the Greek style ones) are good and will be filling if they are not low fat. Extra good sprinkled with some chopped nuts, flaked almonds or a few berries.

    Disadvantages & advantages of Metformin

Indeed. I had successfully managed my T2 for over 10 years with diet and exercise alone but after a sudden bereavement and a lot of stress, needed some extra help with managing the condition and was put on slow release Metformin (Glucophage brand). I have never had any problems with it and...

    Low Carb Tins of Soup

This isn't! 4g of carbs per 100g and its very filling. Its so substantial that have it instead of a meal occasionally. And its fresh not canned https://www.waitrose.com/ecom/products/waitrose-green-thai-chicken-soup/003108-1154-1155

    Metformin

I have been taking slow release Metformin for the last 3 years and am a firm advocate of it. Unfortunately most of the posts here tend to be negative ones from those who cannot tolerate it, rather than those of us who do, but in my experience, the most effective way to take the drug is to build...

    Flu Jab

I had mine this morning while having routine blood tests. The nurse said they are doing them earlier this year, and that the vaccine she used for me had the "Brisbane strain" to combat the nasty Australian virus. For what its worth, I also read in the news today that the vaccine is more...

Am I fighting too hard at a losing battle?

Those are excellent results. Congratulations! As for Metformin, I've been taking it for nearly 4 years and initially made regular requests to come off it but after doing my own research and discovering its other health benefits, have decided to remain on it. On the rare occasions I've...

    Bye all

I try not to post here any more, but this topic strikes a chord with me. When I first joined in 2014 and was looking for breakfast ideas, I was regularly advised to have a fry up. Those same posters are now admitting that they no longer have breakfast at all, but advocate fasting until...

    Here we go again...statins...

I have been refusing statins since 2014 and this is noted on my records also. When I had my annual review at the beginning of this month (unusually with my GP rather than the DN) he had a student doctor sitting in, and explained to the student, with a smile at me, that I had refused statins...

    Run out of metformin

It is also known to have many other advantages as my DSN told me last week at my annual review, including protecting the heart. It is the only medication I am happy and willing to take long-term because of its benefits

    Can't control diabetes.

Yes, getting there. I can so relate to what you are going through as I've just finished a 7 day course of antibiotics for an ear infection which has resulted in a perforated ear drum. My fasting bs shot up to double figures for the week that I was on the medication but I finished the course...

    Can't control diabetes.

My guess is that its the amoxicillin that has affected your numbers. Be patient while things settle down. If you go introducing a new herbal remedy it might just confuse things.
