Wondering about moving from oral meds to injections

Hi, 1. I pleaded to go on injections so I could stop Glicklazide (hated it, probably can't even spell it) 2. Very easy, but I did increase the dose too fast. 6 units, 8 , 10, 12. that was 2 days and I should have given it a few days between increases and not 12 hours. But no problems. 3. I got...

Hard exercise with T2 and insulin

Thanks for the reply. It seems you are in a similar level of exercise sport. In desperation I contacted the diabetic unit at the local hospital and they advised exactly the same. 20% less insulin and maybe try 40% less next time. So... I tried this and ran the session at 7.4 to 8.5 and felt...

Hard exercise with T2 and insulin

Could anyone with experience give me some clues as to how to manage my blood glucose levels. I'm 55 and exercising very hard as I have started Roller Derby. My question is, do I inject more or less before hard exercise? Also, can I drink an electrolyte sports drink with carbs to try to reduce...

    Bad reaction to gliclazide

I hated Gliclazide. I couldn't exercise without feeling weak almost straight away. I needed a mini mars bar to get me going again, and that is ridiculous for a diabetic. I pleaded to go on insulin and from that day I got my life back. I now inject twice a day and have lost the tiredness in the...

Sugar free soft drinks / mixers with NO ASPARTAME!

My doctor advised me to avoid sweeteners as they could be a reason for my headaches. I now try to avoid them and my headaches have almost gone. Life, for me, has improved.

    Insulin inevitable?

Hi, Sorry to hear of your concerns. I have been diagnosed as Type 2 diabetic for about 10 years and my levels were slowly creeping up despite Metformin, trying harder with diet, and going on to Gliklazide. I hated this one! I was feeling very tired after meals and very hungry all of the time. I...

    Fasting test

I think your readings are very good. There is something called 'dawn phenominon' where the liver dumps sugar into the blood ready for the start of the day. I had 12hr fasting ready for a hospital blood test and the reading was 11. 2 hours later after the test and not eating it had risen to...

    apples

My opinion is...Thousands of years ago we gorged on apples in autumn when they were plentiful on the trees. This gave us large ammounts of fructose a sugar that prompted fat storage. This enabled us to survive the winter when we had little food and needed to burn off our fat reserves. Just like...

    down and beaten

Hi Phil169. I seem to have found someone with similar symptoms as me. I am type 2 on insulin and almost trebled dose in the 12 days I have been on it. This morning 12.6 after fasting for 12 hours. Humulin M3 16 units am and pm. I have always felt better and had the best HbA1c on a Low Carb High...

Anonymous Question Is my flatulence to do with diabetes?

At last I have found someone else with lack of response to tablets. To keep with this thread, ALL the medication has side effeects of 'may cause flatulence' so I see it as a licence to fart. So there! I am now type 2 on insulin and that is not working too well either. My readings are still over...

    Help! Morning readings over 10

Hi Totto, I only tried the protein shake as I didn't want to eat any carbs. Yesterday I ate oats as I felt I needed at least some carbs but today just the shake. BG was 14.5 2 hrs after cereal and 10.3 2 hrs after the shake. Better but a way to go as yet.

Diagnosed with Type 2 and struggling.....

Hi and welcome to being a diabetic, Indeed you have a lot to learn and it will help you build a better life, and I say better as without diagnosis your health would have slipped downhill. One of the first things I had to learn was that it is not 'you are what you eat' as the NHS seems to...

    Help! Morning readings over 10

I can only dream of those numbers. 10.2 this morning, injected 14 units. Had a protein shake for breakfast that has no carbs. 2 hours later BG 10.3. So my BG goeas up when I don't have carbs. Yesterday diabetic nurse said I will have to keep increasing insulin. I'm still classed as type 2 and...

    Gliclazide and Bg readings

I was on Gliclazide for 2 years and hated it. I'm type 2 also on Metformin HbA1c 9.7. I was always hungry and as soon as I started exercise I felt drained, so I would eat snack bars such as tracker (yes sugar and peanuts). I asked to go on insulin and I feel better already after 1 week. Not as...

Low carb diets harmful, the science.

Yes, I agree. What I meant to say was that we have gone wrong with our diets over the last 50 years but our bodies developed over a few thousand years. We should be eating a diet closer to what we used to eat, and not what the supermarkets and factories want us to eat. I think we should eat some...

Low carb diets harmful, the science.

I could never work out why a young healthy nutritionalist or fitness instructor would give low fat advice to a 53 year old diabetic BMI 26. I would love to meet them after they turn 40 and see how their 5 a day low fat diet has treated them through the years. I prefer to look to nature...
