Willl I lose weight this way?

Hi, So I have been T1D since March 2014 and since then the weight has been creeping up (199lbs on diagnosis and 250lbs now). Prior to this week I incorporated carbs into my diet in the form of things like sweet potato, wholegrain rice, wholegrain pasta etc (so lower GI carbs). My blood levels...

    Newly diagnosed diabetic

Hi Sophie. I'm 24 and it's been about 8 weeks since diagnosis myself now. It is a lot to take in and I completely understand what you mean about a carefree life, but gradually everything becomes second nature, testing my BG before bed is embedded into my routine now as much as cleaning my teeth...

    Low carb ideas

Carrot and swede is a good substitute for mash potato. I find coleslaw is quite filling with salads and some sort of meat. Also if I want some kind of carbs like a wrap with chicken I tend to get the kids ones/mini ones as they are only about 15g carbs. Oatcakes are also low-ish carb, popcorn...

    Ketoacidosis symptoms

Another symptom I experienced when I had it was really fruity breath, that was the day before I went into hospital with DKA after having all of the other symptoms for about 4-5 daya Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

Type 1: What are your HbA1c test results?

Had my first one today, 9.8 having only been diabetic for 6 weeks and being admitted to hospital with DKA and extremely high levels, I'm happy with a 9.8 as I'm confident I can get it down by my next appt :-) Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

    BG levels before bed

Thank you for replying. I panicked a bit, had some oatcakes with a thin bit of peanut butter after posting.. just checked and am on 5 so will check again soon. I think I'd like it to be 6-7. I'm still getting control as am newly diagnosed and haven't experienced a situation like this before...

    BG levels before bed

How high should levels be before bed? I've just tested mine at a 4.5 which is the lowest pre-bed reading I've had, although my levels always seem to shoot up overnight and I will probably wake up about 15 tomorrow. I have also just given myself my evening 20 units of Lantus. Would a pre bed...

    Erratic blood sugars

I've been managing my blood sugars myself since being diagnosed in hoapital and they are absolutely all over the place! I was just wondering if this was a normal occurance for people in the beginning? For instance I went to bed with a 12 on Tuesday and woke up at 19, last night I went to bed...

    Struggling

I've only had it two weeks, and I feel the same. I can imagine it's quite a common thing. It's a new lifestyle, but without the choice. What routine are you on for your insulin? Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

    Newly diagnosed T1

I've been given a set ratio of 8 NovaRapid before each meal, and 14 Lantus before bed. I am still getting my head around it but plan to carb count and adjust my insulin accordingly. I guess I just need to take time to learn what works for my body and to determine a good insulin:carb ratio. It's...

    Newly diagnosed T1

Hi, my name is Emma, and last. Monday I was admitted to hospital where I found out I was suffering from Diabetic Ketoacidosis as a result of un diagnosed Type 1 diabetes. Whilst I was in hospital (they kept me in for 4 days), my blood sugar levels were pretty high, ranging from 9-24. They let...
