Advise on child wanting pump please

Hi, I have longed to get a pump for years...but they are expensive things. It seems to be the NHS attititude that they will only give them to the people who need them most. This si fair enough I suppose. Unfortunately, sometimes this can feel a little unfair. Sometimes, someone with diabetes...

    Nutri Scales

This thread has proved to be a lesson in life! I read the first post thinking...Wow, that sounds great....only to get to SarahQs post and then realise, like so often is the case, when something sounds too good to be true, it very often is! Thanks all, it is things like this that make this...

    Antibiotcs

Hi Paul, Yes, anti biotics make my BG go up as well...although teh effect you describe is far more extreme than my own...although that could just be we are prescribed different kinds of anti biotics?? Sofaraway is absolutely correct about teh infection, but teh antibiotics make the BG problems...

    ALLERGIC TO INSULIN!!

Hi there, I am pregnant too...so I understand completely the problem with looking for something to help the itching. I am T1, so the diabetes aspect is slightly different. I am not allergic to insulin...but I do get teh red itchiness sometimes around injections sites. I used to get this a...

To listen, or not to listen to the diabetic???

Hi Alex...blimey, please invite me round for dinner! I agree with Lydia. I am a t1 diabetic, who takes good care of themselves, and watches what they eat...BUT, if a friend, who is a good cook asked me what I wanted to eat at a party...I would be tempted to go for my favourites as well. As a T1...

    new member

Hi Carol, Congratulations on teh new grandchild! I have no experience of Acomplia. Alas, My only advice re losing weight is teh obvious (and teh things that no one want to hear!). The only way I have managed to lose weight was to reduce the amount of calories eaten/drunk, and then adjust the...

    10 Year-old - strange attitude?

Another one who went through this stage. I did a "complete ostrich" and ignored it completey...not a good thing to do. I went to a diabetic camp...and loved it. Mind you, I was the kind of child who was going to enjoy it...I remeber beating the Drs at cricket..and feeling very proud. I was about...

HI,IM NEW AAND JUST WONDERED IF ANYONE COULD HELP ME PLEASE.

Hi, Sorry, I have not heard of this either...and I am also a little suspicious, but I don't really know the facts. I guess the insulin is linked with hypos, and so having one, means you are more likely to suffer the other. Not sure what the £90 could be. Could it just be long acting insulin...

    Diabetes and fits

Exactly what Sarah said really. The only fit I have had, was linked to my diabetes, and that was wehn my blood sugar was extremely low. Get her to the specialist as soon as possible, poor thing! Wishing you all the best!

    Plan of action for who?

Hi Jual, Still smiling at the thought of glowing ears! I think that the others have given you excellent advice. As a general point, now that you have your HbA1C result, your nurse can not ignore the fact that you need to do something to control you blood sugars. I would go for the "I got my...

    Professional ignorance

HI Ian, Sarah is very lucky to have you! That does sound awful. When I was a kid, my diabetes specialist used to call the HbA1C my lie detector test....so his attitude basically was that what was written in the book was "suspect" if it didn't back up what the HbA1C was. I don't want to scare...

Bizzarre reaction to low carb diet

Hi All, Well, I am not a freaky eater...yet, but Fergus 's results have encouraged me to give it ago once my baby is born...believe me, if I switched diets now, my body wouldn't cope..but I can't argue with results like you achieve! Thanks for this post, I had no idea about the protein thing...

    Hello from a New Member

Hi Yasmin, Wow! You have done an amazing job of treating your diabetes...and I am so impressed! Sorry, that comes across a bit patronising, but it really isn't meant to! As Sarah said, diabetes does get most people down sometimes, so you are certainly not alone with that. I also agree that it is...

    Something Very Strange!

I met a girl once who had a very similar experience. her brother was diagnosed type 1 shortly after a holiday virus...can't remeber where they went though. I met her afew years back now, when she was a student working with our group during her holidays. She was going to medical school, and aimed...

Am I talking myself into this....??

Hi Jesben, Like Sue says, we are not really qualified to give this kind of advice, so definately go and see the Dr. I hope you are feeling better by the way! To be honest, what you describe sounds like too little sugar, rather than too much...but if you are type 2, and aren't taking anything...

    Neuropathy

Hi Ian, I get the tingly thigh thing when my blood sugar goes low...and recognise the symptoms. Alas, I can't offer any advice, but wanted to wish you good luck with your Dr's appointment. You certainly seem to be doing all the right things.

Well, I love it! Thanks for all the hard work. I have had a play around with the settings, and hope that I have managed to find the "switch of emails everytime someone adds soemthing to a post setting", so I am happy. 8) Now...I just need a way to disguise from my boss that I am not actually...

No complaints from me either..and thank you for all the hard work that has gone into things. Of course people disagree from time to time, and that is fine....as long as we all remember that most post are well intentioned...even if they can be painful to read sometimes! Thanks to the mods too

    Alcohol

Claire, I know...aspartame is not your favourite thing....but I thiink the advice is based on the fact there is no point sticking to a low sugar alcohol...only to add 20 grams of carbohydrate to it with a slud of lemonade. I guess the most diabetes friendly, aspartame free option is a dry white...

    I don't get it?

Hi Claire, Not an easy question, and probably one for the Dr I am afraid. The only thing I would say is that being a new Mum leaves most people feeling shattered etc..although not usually dry mouthed. Sometimes, I have felt that diabetes is a label, in that once you have that label, absolutely...
