Type 2 but love eating loads of chocolate

My advice is: whenever you feel like eating chocolate, eat a pickled gherkin instead. That'll take away any thought of chocolate. My second advice is to google foot amputations. You may need to shock your way out of eating chocolates, Neil. My mother and aunt went blind due to diabetes, my...

Average for the past 90 days

No need to worry. Average readings of 5.2 are a dream for many of us. They are absolutely normal.

worried that i might have diabetes

Hi Chris I have got ME (Chronic Fatigue) and it has been compared to having a high fever while you run a marathon and at the end having to sit an exam. I've had it for over 20 years and it is now manageable, but was very debilitating the first few years. Let's hope it is neither MS nor ME and...

Poll: Which diabetes course(s) have you attended?

It is very frustrating indeed. The course is obviously orientated towards people who know nothing about diabetes and (for whatever reason) have not tried to find out for themselves. I fear they lap it all up as a gospel and don't look elsewhere. Although, last week the numbers had reduced from...

    Timing of blood glucose testing

There are a lot of questions I would not be comfortable in answering. Remember, we are not medically trained and couldn't comment on anything medical like blood pressure and what effect if may have on raised blood sugar levels. For me, at least, the answer would be that I have no idea...

Poll: Which diabetes course(s) have you attended?

Trudi Deakin wrote the X-Pert course I am on, but when I commented on the change in Trudi Deakin's approach (away from recommending starchy carbs with every meal and eating low carb / high fat) I was told it was just a fad and as all fads they come and go but should not be taken seriously. Oh...

Now the X-PERT advice is low carb, high fat

Will send you details. Thanks for doing this. It is important that the recommended way of eating is phased out.

Now the X-PERT advice is low carb, high fat

I know... I do understand that the DN can't change the format of the course. We've all been given the (old) handbook and slowly work through the chapters. It puts here in a difficult position. I'm sure not helped by my questioning a lot of her assertions.

Now the X-PERT advice is low carb, high fat

I was on day 3 of the X-Pert course today where the OLD way of eating (starchy carbs with every meal, low fat, low calories) was recommended. I approached the DN about the change in Trudi Deakin's view that fat is not all bad but that it is carbs that cause the damage, but my comments were...

Poll: Which diabetes course(s) have you attended?

Had Week 3 (Carbohydrates Awareness) at X-Pert today. We were served home baked cakes (at 20 carbs a piece)..... Need I say more?

Poll: Which diabetes course(s) have you attended?

You can always self-refer. That is what I have done as prediabetic. The waiting list is long, but we have to live with it forever, so even having to wait 8 months is ok for me.

    Fasting bs and walking

Never tried avocado, must get one. I'll have green juice for lunch later.

Poll: Which diabetes course(s) have you attended?

I self-referred and I'm nearly half way through the X-Pert course (well, have attended 2 out of the 6 sessions). So far I haven't learned anything I had not learned on this forum already, but I can see that the course is useful for some people. We have several in our group who, after having been...

    Fasting bs and walking

I got myself a juicer before Christmas and drink green juice a couple of times a week for lunch (kale, spinach, broccoli, cucumber, etc.) Maybe I'll try that tonight as a night-time drink.

    Fasting bs and walking

What medication are you on, dvd? A fasting level of 3.4 is something we all dream about.

    Timing of blood glucose testing

That sounds very good. You can be pleased and don't need to worry too much about what the GP may find. Sounds like normal range. Certainly nothing to worry about.

There is something nicer than mushrooms cooked in butter..... try frying an onion and garlic (both finely chopped), then fry the mushrooms (in butter) before adding a very generous helping of coconut cream. Let the liquid boil down a bit. Utterly delicious.... Best mushrooms I have ever tasted.

    Timing of blood glucose testing

You're in good hands here with lots of knowledgeable people to give advice (I have learned a lot from them). You will have to tweak your diet to make sure it fits in with all you need and all you can eat with your arrhythmia as well as whatever your GP may find at your next blood test. But it...

    Timing of blood glucose testing

You really just have to try everything to know what you can eat. Now that you've got your meter, play around a little with it tomorrow when you have your meals. For example, I can eat porridge made with oatmeal without it raising my blood sugar levels. Weetabix (my favourite) is another thing...
