    Luck with Libre

Erm no. It has nothing to do with education and everything to do with giving people back an element of freedom in their lives.

Seeing a dietitian next month but on LCHF

I am thinking I will attend a DAFNE or equivalent course if offered. The more knowledge I have, the better right?

Seeing a dietitian next month but on LCHF

Thanks. My DSN thinks that doing a course such as DAFNE is a requirement to be considered for a pump. No idea if this is true, but obviously I am going to do what I can to try and improve my chances.

    have anyone tried freestyle libre?

I have been using the Libre since release day, and in combination with LCHF the results have been incredible. I only use finger pricking to test for driving and that is it. Going without the Libre has now become a horrific thought!

Seeing a dietitian next month but on LCHF

Oh no, don't get me wrong, I am not a confrontational or aggressive person. Far from it! I am prepared to listen to sensible advice, I am just dreading the person not being able to deviate from the old fashioned mantra!

Seeing a dietitian next month but on LCHF

Hey everyone, I have an appointment with an NHS dietitian next month, in the quest for a pump (my first appointment under the specialist team). I haven't seen one since first diagnosed, and have struggled with control of my T1D for years. About 18 months ago, after reading an increasing number...

Blurred Spot in Vision 10 Days after Laser Photocoagulation

Hi everyone, I have been suffering from both Retinopathy and Macular Oedema for around 18 months now. I have had three laser sessions and a course of three Lucentis injections into my right eye. Since initially being diagnosed with the complications I have drastically improved control of my BS...

What's up with the "low-carb is bad" hype?

For me, LCHF has done miracles for control of my BG levels. I used to find it almost impossible to control on the NHS's recommendations. However, I totally get that it is not suitable for everyone. I even accept that it may have as yet unexpected health consequences in the long term (although...

Why are people eating specific and low carb diets?

Well Sammy, I personally run, cycle, hike and swim. 5 times a week. I run several half marathons a year and I also complete at least one extreme distance/ultra event. For me, "just bolus" for it is total nonsense. The only thing that made me able to manage my diabetes effectively (HbA1c 5.7%)...

    Retinopathy and Macular Edema?

Just out of interest, how much is the Nocturna? I notice that it is not a buy once, own it for a lifetime item, and that it needs to be replaced every 12 weeks? Thanks, Pete

It sounds to me that you look after yourself very well, and although you don't low carb, I bet you are very careful with your portion sizes. I bet your diet is much lower carb than the majority of people regardless.

What's the craziest thing your doctor's ever said?

When I went to see my GP with the typical undiagnosed Type 1 symptoms of desperate thirst, massive weight loss, constant peeing, extreme lethargy and thrush in my mouth, I was told that I was probably just "depressed". I went home and did my own research, went to see another GP in my clinic and...

type 1 and in the army!

Leedoak, I am a civvie now so no need for formalities ;) It looks like the outlook is much better now, and of course, things are different with 14 years of regular service under your belt. I think things will probably work out ok, but injecting in the cookhouse must be interesting!

type 1 and in the army!

I held a TA Commission in my local Infantry Regiment. I had just completed five years when I started suffering from Type 1 symptoms. I was almost instantly medically discharged. In fact it happened so fast my head was spinning. It really, really messed me up. I am glad to hear that the Army has...
