    Honeymoon period confusion!

Hi, my daughter was diagnosed 10 months ago she was started on insulin and within 4 weeks needed no insulin what so ever as it caused constant hypos. I really thought they had made a mistake. She took no insulin for 3 months and had normal and sometimes occasionally slightly elevated sugars. She...

    Not coping...

Hi Lisa, my daughter was diagnosed 10 months ago at age 12. I am the same as you I really don't think I will ever accept it. I find myself constantly asking why and now have what I call a life sentence worrying if my other two children will develop it. I suppose we are both at the same stage...

Really fed up- feeling like a failure as a parent.

Hi there, like yourself I'm fed up with the added daily task of managing diabetes, my daughter is 13 and diagnosed just over 8 months ago in March. She takes 10 units of levemir at bed time at on an odd occasion needs novorapid. She on the other hand has mostly low blood sugars as she produces...

    Honeymoon period without insulin

We were told about it straight away however I wasn't expecting her to come off insulin all together. She has the most random blood sugars, yesterday she got up with a 7.0 at lunch it was 4.7 and 2 hrs after it was 3.8. Strange thing is when she had her dinner 2 hrs later it was 3.6 so basically...

1/2 unit of insulin causing hypo

It's probably not safe for her to have insulin at the moment today she was 6.0 when she got up 9.4 before lunch and 2 hrs after lunch she was 4.1 and then 5.5 before her dinner tonight. That seems to be most days pattern sometimes the 9.0 would be after dinner and sometimes lunch but it always...

1/2 unit of insulin causing hypo

To be honest the hospital is not that helpful they didn't even do an antibody test to confirm diagnosis. At times of the day her blood can drop to 3.3 and have symptoms of a non insulin hypo but they wouldn't be worried about that! Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

1/2 unit of insulin causing hypo

No the hospital didn't even suggest it. Don't think they are sure what to do with her. Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

1/2 unit of insulin causing hypo

It might settle down today sometimes a change in insulin causes a bit of a reaction but may be different a day or 2 after. My daughter came of the long lasting due to the same reason but unfortunately when her sugars would be 8.0. 9.0 or 10.0 she can't take novorapid even a 1/2 unit would cause...

1/2 unit of insulin causing hypo

I think that the sugar overload has something to do with it also. The consultant wants her in hospital again today to get a blood test when she goes under 4.0 I'm browned off with the whole lot of it! Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

1/2 unit of insulin causing hypo

Thanks for sharing that with me, I am going to push for the hospital to do some kind of testing, think that's what bothering me the most the fact they are just ignoring it all hoping it will steady out soon. Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

1/2 unit of insulin causing hypo

I think the reactive hypoglycemia is something to investigate although if she took any amount of insulin at the moment that would be the end of her. If her sugars were to go up maybe a different insulin could be an option. Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

1/2 unit of insulin causing hypo

We would have always kept sweets to a minimum as a young child and she didn't drink anything fizzy until she was 9, but as she got older, more independent and went to secondary school that's when we had problems with her sugar intake and lack of proper food. The worst intake was fizzy drinks...

1/2 unit of insulin causing hypo

Hi the hospital didn't do the antibody test or any other at the time of diagnosis. After a few weeks they did Addison's and coeliac. Her sugar was 25.0, keytones and she had a dry mouth/thirst when taken to hospital. The first week off insulin was ranging between 5.5-11.5 roughly with a random...

Similar experiences - suddenly dropping blood sugars

Hi there, my daughter was diagnosed a T1 8 weeks ago on high blood sugar and thirst. In this time she has been taken off insulin due to daily hypos and told its a very extreme honeymoon period! A week after coming off insulin she struggles to keep her blood sugar over 4.0 and has at least 2 x...

1/2 unit of insulin causing hypo

Hi again, 2 weeks on and she is still off insulin. However the blood sugars have had totally different turn. In the morning it's around 5.4 and from there on she is struggling to keep it above 4.0 and even more strangely her blood sugar either doesn't go up at all or it goes down the lowest so...

Can Glucose intolerance be mistaken for type 1

Thanks for that, I really don't understand my daughters diagnosis. Seven weeks along with no insulin her sugars range in a day at the moment from 4.7 to 10.3 I have posted about the honeymoon period without insulin but as of yet I have heard of no similar honeymoon periods. It's dreadful every...
