Type 1 Moving abroad with Type 1 Diabetes

Hi, thanks for your response. Yes, I am aware that I would need medical insurance for the U.S. if I ere to go there. Through my research I have found out that some jobs offer medical insurance and I am aware that I would still have to contribute myself. I intend to do thorough research before...

Type 1 Moving abroad with Type 1 Diabetes

Hi, I'm a Type 1 Diabetic and have been for the last 12 years. I have good control of my diabetes and have suffered no problems (so far) I have no problems with my eyes and my HBA1C is 6.5%. I have never let my diabetes control what I do and is like to keep it that way. I am planning on...

    Travelling to America

I have to admit, I think that going to America on the pump is far too difficult. For you to get the medication you need out there, the injections are best as they can be purchased easily. I spent around 2 months in America and found being on injections was a lot easier. Obviously it's your...

Has any else had trouble with their sharps bin collection ?

Thats unusual. Seems that different places have different rules.

Has any else had trouble with their sharps bin collection ?

My council have never picked up my sharps bin, not even an option where I live. Take it to your GP's, they are suppose to take it for safe disposal. I get a new one as part of my prescription. As to your comment on GP's are already stretched, so are councils so it doesn't matter where they go as...

    Schools and what they know

Haha. I wished my teachers acted this way. It's a shame a lot of them don't understand or know what to do.

Yep, 13 years. I've had one serious hypo at school were I ended up with paramedics treating me and in hospital for a couple of days and I've just recently had a slight diteriation in my eyesight but that's due to now wearing glasses. Apart from that, no serious problems:) ahh, so enough time to...

    Schools and what they know

I've experienced this with teachers. I once, a few years ago now, had a hypo at school and went into hypoglycaemic shock and was unconscious and my teachers had no clue as to what they were doing. We had meetings over and over, including my doctors coming in making sure they all knew what to do...

    metformin

Agree with the SR comments. Metformin is not good at all. My grandfather was on them for 20 odd years and they shut down his system completely. He ended up on dialysis and life support due to Metformin poisoning his system over the years.

    Someone to talk to?

Yep, certainly is! I've always coped quite well. When I was younger my teachers new, my friends new so I got used to it very quickly. As I've got older it has become a bit harder for me due to going to college and getting set up for Uni and everyone there having to know about it as I do suffer...

Type 1: What are your HbA1c test results?

Mines 6.3 which is considerably good. My doctor has since discovered that although I am a type 1 diabetic I am still producing a tiny bit of insulin myself. He classes me as a VERY lucky diabetic as I have no problems what so ever!

    Help

See your doctor. It sounds like type 1 rather than type 2. I am a type 1 so can see a clear difference. Also, I wouldn't recommend taking metformin either, it's not good for your body. Won't go into detail as don't want to put you off but due to personal experiences, I wouldn't go anywhere near...
