    Does diabetes shorten our lives?

I know that a badly-managed type 1 diabetes will cause "complications" (itself a multitude of sins) later in life, but how about a moderately-managed type 1? I'm talking about myself, I'm 45 and test & inject regularly, but do not lead a strict regime of no beer/fatty foods etc and only...

Can't figure out my girlfriend - lies?

I have depression which has crippled me emotionally over the years, affecting my behaviour but also my thought processes, and need an impartial opinion. I met my current partner eight years ago. She had just been through a series of events whereby her then-boyfriend (affair, really), a result...

No 'bond' - just two lots of "rent"?

I don't know if anyone has heard of this before. I was intrigued and thought I'd post it here to see what others thought. In July 2007 a work colleague of mine privately rented a studio flat (in Sheffield)- bathroom and toilet included- which was brand new at the time, he was the first tenant...

    Persistent website registerer?

Hi I run my own site and have noticed in the past fortnight that an anonymous person keeps registering new ID's at the rate of 2 each day. The IP addresses were initially so similar that I knew it was the same person- now slightly differing, plus they create similarly long and weird user-ID's...

Tiredness and diabetes - a link?

Hi folks I don't mean those diabetics only recently diagnosed, whose blood sugars will no doubt be high. I have type 1 under control (for about a year now) and my levels are usually always within the optimum, I work sitting at a computer all day and, though I take breaks and exercise my eyes...

    Any Beatles fans?

And which are your favourite tracks? I've always loved this band's music- not the early stuff really, but the post-touring/studio material 1966 onwards- maybe including Rubber Soul from the mid-career period. Many people that 'diss' them usually have only ever heard those admittedly simplistic...

    Any Beatles fans?

Hi I love the Beatles and always have, their later stuff mostly- post-Rubber Soul- after they'd given up touring. My fave list (Revolution, Cry baby cry, Because, etc) isn't exactly in line with the usual popular hits on combo albums, but I just started my own website dedicated to the group...

Concerned- my Bloods are always at good levels!

Yes I know- this is surely a good thing? But after being diagnosed in April 08, my blood sugars are still within the optimum levels (4.5-7.5) and usually have been. Is this still just the "honeymoon period" whilst mt body uses up it's last vestiges of Insulin? Thanks

    The BNP- a 'racist' party?

Hi folks and sorry in advance, as I'm not trying to start an argument. On a history forum on the web, some members took offence to the right-wing party, The BNP, being slagged off as 'racists', 'fascists' and 'neo-nazis', and wouldn't hear any other viewpoint or logic (as opposers said). They...

    Ethical dilemma at work...help.

Hi I work for the 'local Government' (in my region of England) which involves dealing with highly personal information about members of the public (not customer facing), and recently heard a female colleague (usually fairly mouthy for showy effect) who handles incoming complaints/concerns from...

    Stimulants for tiredness?

Hi Before being diagnosed with type1 (April 08), when tired at work I used to take Proplus tablets, sweet sugary sweets or drink Redbull- all of which I know are usually off-limits now! Is there anything I could take instead, when feeling tired? :| Thanks

    Medical exemption?

In the UK we type 1's have these cards, but what do they cover exactly? For example, do they cover NHS dentists fees? I think they do, but am not sure...

    Fitness and insulin

Hi folks I'm new here and was diagnosed type1 in early April 08 ( ) and after a couple of year's non-activity, I'm wondering how best to resume a fitness regime (ie. running)? I know to take enough carbs and not too much insulin before a jog (carrying a few jelly babies) but isn't there...
