    Type 1: Prescription fine

I had my penalty waived but still had to pay the prescription charge. I told the GP the situation and they apologised and gave me an exemption form to fill in. I now have an exemption certificate (well, it's a card). However, the problem still exists as before. My son, who will be 18 this...

The relevance to being fined for not having an exemption certificate when you have T1 is....?

    Type 1: Prescription fine

I was diagnosed T1 last May. I was sent from the GP to hospital, where I was put on insulin so I could go home for the weekend. The following week I was back at my doctors to pick up all the medication I needed. I was told that I was now medically exempt so didn't have to pay. I have continued...

    Quick Hypo Snack

4 jelly babies seems to work for speed. I have them in a waterproof key lanyard so they're always to hand. And it stops any over indulgence! Perfect for teaching, dog walking etc. Chocolate is too slow. If it's more than an hour until my next meal I'll then have a cereal bar.

    Confused about testing frequency

I don't need more beforehand but I need less during. At first I couldn't work out why I had y Hypos when on.

    I can do this!

Thank you. Its good to see so many people that continue with their normal activities. I'm still a bit wary but want to get back to two high intensity 'workouts' a week (there are some breaks and slower bits). I have to fit my main meal after work, so usually 6.30pm, and then training begins at...

Worrying and stressing yourself over things you have no control of will lead to insanity. Try to relax. Although you want to help, it's his diabetes.

Would it attach in a similar way you how you guys attach your pump?

New Flash Glucose Monitoring from Abbott - Bloodless Testing

It looks great. It says it needs fitting every 2 weeks. It doesn't say how... It may need fitting by a nurse. I like the idea of anything that makes monitoring more regular. It may even be cost effective for NHS compared to strips!

    Confused about testing frequency

Stress and monthly cycle is when I will have a hypo. My diabetic nurse at the GP wanted me to test less often (4 times a day) to protect my fingers. My consultant wasn't impressed and wrote to my GP to up my repeat prescription to 200 strips. I usually test 6 times a day and feel I'm starting to...

    I can do this!

Well done for getting it down. We can do this! It would be easier if it was an exact science but life isn't. That's what makes it interesting!

    Finger Prickers

The lancet is off centred. I just make sure I place the raised circle on the bottom exactly where I want it. Hope that helps.

Appointment with diabetic nurse / pain management clinic / hip & knee consultant

I was diagnosed T1 after I'd told my husband I was leaving him. I could no longer cope with his expectations that I would always be there for him and look after him. I'd spent too many years being taken for granted. He wouldn't listen when I was concerned about his lifestyle choices. It's...

    Finger prickers ...

Am I right in thinking that, as a diabetic, you have the right to request the best monitor etc suited to your needs? That was what I read when I received my Bayer contour next meter. They have a helpline if you have difficulty getting the equipment you want. I am still using my accucheck...

    I can do this!

As there is no choice about insulin, I feel lucky I can continue to eat the same foods I have always eaten. I thinks it's important that we all remain positive :0)

    I can do this!

He's lucky to have you supporting him. The forum is brilliant to give support and answer questions. It does get easier. At first it feels to take over but already I'm in a routine. The biggest part for me is deciding what I'm going to eat before I eat it. I used to graze and eat when I...

Looking at your results, well done to you! From what I have learnt so far, T2 seems harder to manage.
