how much carb is allowed per day for type 1

In the 1970s, for me, this was a fixed amount of carbs for each meal plus a fixed amount for mid-morning, mid-afternoon and before bedtime snacks. This was along with one injection per morning of a fixed number of units of a longer acting insulin which was supposed to last all day. I was on 40g...

    Corned beef

You could ask the DSN if a split dose of the long acting insulin would help.

    Medtronic guardian 4

I have only had a few problems with the G4 sensor. On the whole, I think it's good. I have never attempted to place it on my arm, as I refuse to depend on someone else to help me with my diabetes. On the few occasions I have phoned Medtronic re a faulty sensor, they have asked where it was...

    The Miserable Itch

@TOnline I was diagnosed Type 1 just over 45 years ago. For months I had itched morning, noon and night but especially at night. I found wearing only natural fibres helped greatly but didn't get rid of the itch. Weeks after starting insulin treatment, I found the itching had stopped. Months...

Type 1 Cataract Surgery required on sighted eye-blind in other eye. T1 for 64years. Diagnosed 1960- Anyone any experience with this scenario

After a cataract operation you will be able to see out of that eye, but sight could be a bit blurred for a day or two. You will need reading glasses, as the new lens will most likely be for distance only. You will be given two types of drops to use, antibiotic drops and anti-inflammatory drops...

    Medtronic 780g Correction doses

Many people require different correction levels for different times of the day. Mine range from 3.5 to 5. Losing weight can cause hypos, so carb ratios would need changed, as your insulin requirements fall. Again, you can have different carb ratios for different times of the day. if you use a...

    Type 1 and Coeliac

I've been Type 1 for 45 years and was diagnosed coeliac almost 8 years ago, at my first coeliac test at my annual review. I had no symptoms. I was referred to a gastroenterologist who gave me an endoscopy for the full coeliac diagnosis. When he gave me the result he said I should go gluten...

    injecting

@tiafrancis 10 what size of needle are you using? I'm asking this, as I was prescribed the wrong size needle when I was diagnosed, and injections were very painful. This changed when I was prescribed the then correct size.

    Lunchtime ratio

The carb ratio is 1 unit per ?g carbs 5.5 units for 70g Therefore 1 unit for 70 ÷ 5.5 = 12.727g Obviously, for ease you would use whole numbers. I'm old enough to know my 12 times table and I'm not too bad with the 13 times table. 12.727 is closer to 13, so your ratio would be 1:13. You would...

    Mio Advanced Issues

When I first started using the Mio Advance, I had high blood sugars and the set didn't seem very stable. I watched what was happening when I removed the white tape before inserting the Mio Advance and noticed that the sticky tape tended to curl back and stick to itself, thus leaving less surface...

    New Cannula Issues.....

I don't like the Mio Advance, but I know many others think it's wonderful. Unfortunately I preferred the Mio which is no more. I have also started having high BGs following a set change. I read online that others with the same problem add various amounts of extra insulin to the Fill Cannula...

BG Riding High During The Night.....

@Henry_Sugar the only things we can change in the 780G system are carb ratios and active insulin time. Have you tried raising your night time bolus or reducing your active insulin time (or both)? If this doesn't work all you can do is ask your DSN what she can suggest.

    Using Fiasp on a pump?

I've been using Fiasp in Medtronic pumps for years, and also have the cgm. No problems at all.

    Fiasp

If you are having consistently high blood sugars in the morning, this suggests your overnight basal is too low.

    Train Driver

Perhaps your GP/hospital could prescribe the Freestyle Libre for you. The new one (Libre 2? 3?) alerts you to low blood sugars. This should be in your favour in the decision made. Having said that, my cousin, a pilot, was grounded for a year when diagnosed Type 1.

    Newbie - Hypo confused

Perhaps it was a false hypo, as your blood sugar is now lower than it has been for a long time. If so, your body will get used to your new blood sugar levels.

    Fiasp

Novorapid always took forever to get my blood sugar back to normal. If I was high in the morning my BG wouldn't be back to normal till early evening. With Fiasp, my BG is back to normal by lunchtime. With Novorapid, there was no problem giving a bolus for food when BG was around 4, but with...

    Prescription hold ups

I had a prescription for a new pen refused, a couple of years ago. I use an insulin pump but require a pen for emergencies, if my pump is faulty. I have insulin cartridges on repeat prescription, but my GP said the hospital would have to prescribe the insulin pen. They have prescribed pens...
