The NHS - Is it that bad?

Very much so! It's a joke how they can't afford this and that and have a budget that's just crazy. With the sheer scale of the NHS, and looking at the research resources they have, and the research on meds in this country which is done on tax payer funding before licensing out of medical...

The NHS - Is it that bad?

The NHS is brilliant. Let's look at it (T1 perspective). We get paid for by the NHS a small mountain of kit, insulin at £90 a bottle, test strips at £1 each, lancets, meters, pump's costing thousands possibly and maybe even CGM costing many hundreds per month. We get to see a DSN pretty often...

    Outrage! DAFNE after 1 year

That is exactly why DAFNE is so brilliant. It covers food yes, but it doesn't lay down any rules on food, it just informs about how different foods effect us, and gives us all the tools to openly do whatever we wish to do with whatever foods we choose to have. It doesn't just cover food though...

    Outrage! DAFNE after 1 year

He got his misses (since she's a doc) to buy him a meter (Ames) for him to use at home yes. In his video he does claim it and actually states he "invented the home blood glucose meter". I was actually hoping when he did say it he was going to go into something about as an engineer he did this...

    Outrage! DAFNE after 1 year

For someone who hasn't done the course to say it is setting us up for complications is utterly incorrect. It's giving people the tools to deal with the condition while also not limiting their options. It's quiet frankly freedom to live a normal life without the limits being imposed by this...

    Outrage! DAFNE after 1 year

Sorry, your numbers don't add up. You claim you stay below 8.0 mmol two hours after a meal yet show your HbA1c of 7.8%, which equates to an average BG of 9.8 mmol. Sorry, if you are averaging 9.8 mmol that's not a good level for anyone no matter what diet you are on. With levels this out of...

    Carbs for exercise

It all depends on many things really. What you are doing, carbs on board, insulin on board, weather etc. Must admit I'm a total swine for collecting data on everything and heavily use a Garmin to gather my heart rate, weather data and power expenditure as well as terrain. Add that to BG reading...

    Worst date ever!

Happens sadly :( Then you get those who cringe at even a simple finger test let alone a needle. Not worth the hassle really!

    Airport Security & Medication

Hate to say it but I love it. That bit where the lass at the checkin desk asks "have you any sharps?" YES! loads, to see her face drop as you pull out the huge bag full of everything for them. Never had any issues though with anyone. A few like to have a good nose through all the labels and such...

    I'm so SICK of diabetes

It's a vicious circle and been there myself. You stop caring about your levels, and they throw your body chemistry out of whack and that fuddles the brain into not caring even more...or worse. It really got to me hard in my 20's. Think my turn around was more knowing I was being so out of...

Can Type 1 Diabetics eat Chocolate ?!

Bolus for it and carry on. It's a food, we deal with it like anything else...although you making me drool for some now thinking about it :P

    Diabetic nurse rant...

DSN's come in many different flavours sadly. Some good, some lousy. Same with consultants and GP's sadly. I've had some who would just mutter and tell me what to do, and others who I would end up in a screaming match with. The best DSN (and thankfully current) I've ever had though is the one who...

    Outrage! DAFNE after 1 year

Yes very much so. Food shouldn't be a chore, it's part of every day and we think enough about it converting it to numbers as is. DAFNE doesn't tell you anywhere what to eat, it's about giving us the tools to eat what we choose to eat. And that's the thing, it's about giving us the tools for it...

    DAFNE

Always found going back to a quick browse of the Carbs'n'cals book we got on the course, and/or the app on phone helps keep me pretty solid back on what was taught. As mentioned in the course though, there are external factors influencing our levels like the weather and stress. So even if the...

    Pumps reducing daily insulin dose?

Mine came down from about 34u a day to 16u now. Although on very active all day exercise days can tweak that down further (lowest so far was 4.2u TDD). So yeah, well under half what I used to be on which is great...but even better not having a hypo I haven't corrected myself since I got it :)
