    My diabetes has gone

Hi Cherry, In my earlier post I said I have no plans to touch chocolate, cakes and biscuits ever again. My uncontrollable cravings for them were very destructive and I have no plans to be in their thrall again :) I hated the incredible thirst, the nodding off during the day and the terrible leg...

    My diabetes has gone

I eat low carbs. I have cheated occasionally with potatoes or bread but absolutely no chocolate or biscuits for over two years. (I used to scoff whole birthday chocolate cakes from the supermarket :hungover: but have absolutely no interest in them now) I cook my meals from scratch, nothing...

    My diabetes has gone

Thanks people. But I'm actually still rather suspicious of the new diagnosis. I have a feeling it's kept at bay because I don't exhaust my pancreas as I used to. Also I'm an apple shape who has gone down 5 clothes sizes so I think less fat from the midriff helps. I'm going to do a week of bread...

    My diabetes has gone

Yes. I saw my GP today for my now annual hba1c results. They remain at 31. They have been 31 at the last five or so tests in the 18 months. He seemed amazed, even baffled. I told him I was mostly low carbs but occasionally had bread and potatoes. He told me "whatever it is you're going, it's...

    Bloods normal but so tired...

I've been getting bouts of sleepiness lately but my bloods are fine. On Friday I came over jittery on the train journey home and as soon as I got through my front door I tested my bloods and they were a respectable 4.2. Is it too easy to blame diabetes when an ailment or glitch in the body occurs?

For those on low carb - do you ever have bread or potatoes?

I've been on low carbs for almost 2 years now. Last week with my mince I decided to have mashed potatoes too. They were delicious :hungry: I've had them a few times in the past few months. And because the sky didn't cave in, I've wondered if I could have them as a once-a-week treat. Do any...

How many naughty treats do you have?

I've noticed Sainsburys are now doing a small low carb range of food. I've brought their low carb rice, with is about 0.5 percent carbs and will give it a try this week.

How many naughty treats do you have?

This is regarding food, obviously :) I'm a diet controlled Type 2. As my blood sugars have been so well maintained for over a year, for the past 3 weeks I've been enjoying potatoes for Sunday dinner. I get on the treadmill afterwards to offset any high blood shenanigans but I'm wondering how...

    New Here and Very Frightened

Hi Stitch. I don't want to prejudice your faith in your Diabetic Nurse but I wouldn't follow her advice on the blood monitor. I think in the early days you need to test religiously pre and post meal so you know exactly what spikes your blood. It's your pancreas and your health and you have to...

The sadness of being ignorant of their own diabetes

Forget the LCHF. I was addressing the OP about their concern over a friend who eats whole loaves of bread and full sugar drinks. By any standards, that is a bad diet choice for a Type 2. Anyone who is imbibing something harmful to themselves will have worried bystanders but in the end, you can't...

The sadness of being ignorant of their own diabetes

If I had a pound for every diabetes-ignoramus I've encountered I'd be rich, rich. rich. It's understandable if your life isn't touched by the condition to remain fairly ignorant of it (although any health education is a good thing) but I find it shocking to meet an established diabetic who seems...

How do we have a low carb Christmas?

That's one thing I'm glad not to have to suffer anymore: eating so much chocolate and other junk that I feel sick and queasy. Crazily I did that for years and not just at Christmas.

How do we have a low carb Christmas?

Hi Copey, I started the same kind of thread last year as it was my first Xmas as a diagnosed Type 2. As I've done well (so far) on my blood sugar control, I plan to have a few potato treats this year. I've completely lost my appetite for sweet things so won't be touching any desserts out of...

    GP versus Diabetic Nurse

I feel that my appts with the DN over the past yielded little or no benefit. Because she told me so little about diabetes management I was forced to seek dietary advice online (including on here, the support has been fantastic:D) so I started going straight to my GP for the latest Hba1c...

Why does my Hba1c keep remaining at 31?

------------------- I was on Metformin for the first 6 months of diagnosis until I made the decision to go it alone. Plus I went to eating very low carbs. I lost lots of weight and have thankfully kept it off. That's all I know! But the thing is, however low hba1c is, it's only as low as the...

Why does my Hba1c keep remaining at 31?

For the past year, spanning 3 hba1c tests, my count has been 31, which is "normal". Don't get me wrong, I'm delighted to have things under control. But surely you couldn't design your reading to be so static if you tried. It hasn't veered from 31. So I'm guessing that Hba1c readings are...

"Best" things doctors have said to you

Recently my best friend and I met up with an old school friend. We arranged to go for lunch at her house. So on the day we turned up, her mother was visiting and was dishing up the food. I had already forewarned my old chum that I was Type 2, she was very understanding. Her mother is a retired...

    Birthday carbfest - surprising results

So it's my birthday this week and I've taken the week off work. I've decided not to have any cake as I've lost my craving for cakes, chocolate etc. However I have treated myself to loads of crunchy potato in a shepherds pie, also some bloomer and butter, vanilla ice cream and yesterday in a...

    Breath freshening without sugar

Does anyone know of a breath freshener I can use that doesn't have sugar? Like many of you I work in close proximity to others in the office and sometimes get a little worried about my breath. I used to suck on mints which is of course a bad thing to do as a type 2.
