    Very high hba1c level - 130mmol/mol. Help.

Resurgam, I bought an ice cream maker a few months ago and made some frozen yoghurt a few times. I used to make cakes but I just don't have the time to make them these days. My kitchen and the rest of the house is always in a state and I can't keep up with keeping it clean. I have so much to...

    Very high hba1c level - 130mmol/mol. Help.

I was on a low carb diet for six years but in October 2019, I felt deprived and started yearning for ice cream and cakes. I gave in and started eating them, so in January my HbA1c went up. I lost weight on low carb to begin with in 2014 but then my weight stayed the same. I wanted to try...

    Very high hba1c level - 130mmol/mol. Help.

That is a good reading, Stevebas. You should be pleased with that. :) Jack the lad, you need to be very strict with your diet and avoid starchy carbs like rice, pasta, potatoes, bread and other products that have flour as well as avoiding sugar where possible. A low carb diet need not be...

Can you help me? Somebody please...

The UK is very much behind with knowledge on cholesterol, unlike other countries where they have done a lot of research. There are some medical professionals who are up to date with their knowledge and have published books about it. I have bought a few of these from Amazon and recommend these...

Can you help me? Somebody please...

Welcome to the forum, Steve. It sounds as though you are doing all the right things and congratulations on your weight loss. I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes 6 years ago and am still on diet only. On diagnosis I was given some wrong advice by my GP about what to eat, being told to have...

    Reusing lancets?

I use a lancet until it loses its sharpness, roughly about every 50 uses. I don't clean it but do wash my hand thoroughly before testing. When I was given a meter by the nurse 4 years ago, I was also given a large yellow box to put the used lancets in. It is still nowhere near full. My used...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

I hope your leg heals soon, Glenmac and that it doesn't become too itchy inside that plaster. I hope too that all the snow has gone from Scotland so you won't be battling with slippery pavements if you have to go out.

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

7.1 fasting on rising but now 10.5 an hour and a half after coffee with cream. Anyone know why this is please? Should I have something to eat?

Celebrating hitting target of 3 stone lost thanks to LCHF way of eating and forum support

Thank you so much, Shelley. The link worked first time. I think I now know what I did wrong. I pressed the forums button in red above, scrolled down to look for the low carb forum and when I came to the Childrens and Teens, I thought I had gone too far. I went back up and looked in the...

Celebrating hitting target of 3 stone lost thanks to LCHF way of eating and forum support

Shelley, I have a lot of difficulty finding my way around this site, despite the fact that I belong to two other forums and have no difficulty with them. I looked for the low carb eating thread yesterday but am not sure if I found it or not as posts seem to be for 2008. I think a 5 year old...

Celebrating hitting target of 3 stone lost thanks to LCHF way of eating and forum support

I was thinking that I had only lost a stone since going low carb but realised this morning that I had made an error in my first post. I am 14st 12lbs, not 15st 12 lbs so I actually lost 2 stone overall, though I have put several lbs back on this winter. I really can't think how I made that...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

7.0 this morning, so I am pleased with that. I thought badgers ate worms? If the heads were taken off the ducks, that sounds like foxes to me. These beautiful wild creatures will eat our livestock but then it is up to us humans to keep them safe.

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

I slept in to 9.15am today and took my fasting bg at 9.30am. It was 8.0 which is higher than usual. I did get up at 3.15 and 7.15 to go to the loo and then went back to sleep. Perhaps dawn phenomenon kicked in then.

Celebrating hitting target of 3 stone lost thanks to LCHF way of eating and forum support

Thanks for your reply Shelley. I tested just after I got up this morning and my bg level was 8.0. I was late getting up (9.15 am) so have just had a coffee and cream. I will wait an hour and test again. I agree with you that life is too short to cut out alcohol completely but I might try...

Shelley, many thanks for your reply. There are some useful suggestions there, thank you. I had never heard of Oppo ice cream so will look for it next time I am in Sainsbury or Waitrose. It looks yummy and I like the choice of flavours. When I looked for it on line, I was offered a £1 voucher...

    HbA1c disappointing!

I had a diabetic review with my GP last month. She was over the moon with my HbA1c of 47. She said that she wished all her patients were as good as I was in controlling my diabetes. As long as it remains below the low 50's, she said that I am unlikely to have any complications. I am a type...

Celebrating hitting target of 3 stone lost thanks to LCHF way of eating and forum support

Well done Shelley. I followed a low fat diet for about 30+ years and' like you, ate plenty of fruit, fruit juice and carbs as per the NHS Eat Well Plate. I put on about 5 stones during that time. I would cut down on calories, lose a little weight and then gain more that I had lost. 4 years...

Does low carb make you low mood

Well done on the weight loss, Mischief. I have also lost just under 2 stone and my GP is really pleased with my HbA1c which is now 47. I think that equates to about 6.3. You have done very well to get down to 4.5. Are you on medication for your diabetes? I am on diet only to control mine. I...

Does low carb make you low mood

I have been reading a lot of low carb and health books and rapeseed oil is one of the healthiest. I suppose olive oil would be better in this case but for cooking, rapeseed is now much better than sunflower or any other oil.
