    NHS Exemption card/certificate.

I have a medical exemption card which you should get if your medication is for your diabetes. Mine lasts for 7 years although I won't need it when it runs out next time as I will be over 60 and will get free prescriptions anyway. Mind you they have put up the retirement age so whats to say they...

    Fed up with surgery staff

Hi I agree with MrsB the surgery has to be very careful about patient confidentiality. I always see the dn at my surgery for test results and then I get the chance to chat through other concerns I might have or get repeat prescriptions.

Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

Hi I must be really lucky as I get everything, meter, lancets and test strips on prescription as often as required. Have you asked your GP or have they just refused? Seems very unfair.

Type 2 diabetes and hypo unawareness research

Hi PSS I test my bg quite often usually before and after breakfast and before and after my evening meal. How often do you test yours? I find that since testing on a regular basis I have had better control of my bs and can adjust what I am eating.

Type 2 diabetes and hypo unawareness research

Hi. I think your research will be valuable as many T2 diabetics are not aware that they can have hypos and neither are some nurses or doctors and often say if you take metformin you won't have a hypo. I have had hypos as I take gliclazide and I also take metformin. Questions that could be...

    Neuropathy

Hi John1948 I get a lot of pain in my groin area and lower back pain and when I went to my GP eventually he ordered an x-ray. The x-ray showed I had arthritis in my hips so just wondering if you have had an x-ray. I can walk fairly well but with a limp but if I over do it I am in considerable...

Annual Hba1c and cholesterol blood test

When first diagnosed 10 years ago I always had fasting blood tests which I could get done early morning prior to my review but in recent years they don't seem to bother about it. My blood is taken by the healthcare assistant and appointments only available in the afternoon so fasting for 12hours...

    Medical Receptionist RANT

I think we put up with a lot of bad service in this country and are afraid to say anything. I know in the private sector, where I am being treated for a condition not related to diabetes, the service is much better.

It would be good if there was a positive outcome as for you and any other patients she deals with like that. I wouldn't think it is good for the reputation of the surgery.

    Medical Receptionist RANT

Not a Gp receptionist but a hospital receptionist in the eye clinic was rather rude when I went for an appointment. I stood at the desk which had a sign above saying reception and the women completely ignored me for at least 5 minutes while she carried on writing. When she finally looked up she...

Very sorry to hear about your bad experience with the receptionist. She seems totally unsuitable to be a receptionist. I was just wondering if there was a positive outcome when you told your podiatrist.

Can a diabetic eat boiled eggs?

I like the sound of alternatives to toast but for me as a vegetarian I will have to try vege bacon or tofu which will be just as good I hope.

Can a diabetic eat boiled eggs?

Phew! I got a bit worried just then when I saw that question '" Can diabetics eat boiled eggs?" I have just eaten boiled egg for lunch and it was yummy. I don't have them very often, may be every few months or so and don't indulge in fried, scrambled or omelettes as I don't like them mores the pity.

This one is hard to beat. In June of this year I was having chemotherapy and thought I would treat myself to a pedicure. When the pedicurist looked at my right foot she said I had an infection under my nail and should see my GP for antibiotics. As I was really close to the surgery I thought I...

    Totally disheartened :(

If you have been exercising then you have been toning your muscles and muscles weigh heavier than fat. As your friend has not been exercising that could be the reason she has lost 12lbs as she has not toned up her muscles. Have you noticed any improvements in the shape of your body?

Hi. I had my diabetic review with the healthcare assistant on Thursday where I get weighed, blood pressure check, feet checked and bloods taken. However the blood test is not the one I used to have which was the fasting one. Has anyone else found they are not having this blood test and why. When...
