    Pasta Yeh!

Thanks for the article which is really interesting. However, if you scroll down the page, there is another article about the dangers of salmonella and it talks about reheating rice and pasta being potentially dangerous. I have always been a bit wary of reheated rice because I knew about its...

    5:2 Diet

Thanks very much. I had a good look at his videos and the web site last night. It certainly suggests that fasting is a good idea to combat the fatty liver which lies at the heart of the diabetic/insulin resistance problem. I couldn't get much idea of what sort of fasting regimes they were...

    5:2 Diet

How are you all getting on? It's gone very quiet. I am thinking of trying IF because my weight loss has stalled. I would combine it with low carb which I have been doing.

    Disposal of lancets

Hi Pabloincampo, welcome to the forum. If you look through the discussions on this thread there are quite a few helpful suggestions on how to dispose of lancets. Have you introduced yourself on the part of the forum for new members? If you do will get a proper welcome and some helpful information.

Thanks for all your replies. I am using the Codefree for now and it seems to be working OK.

    Disposal of lancets

As I am prediabetic, I am doing the testing without support from the doctor, who said I didn't need to. As I am in France, I am not sure what the procedure is for disposing of sharps bins, and based on the comments by others in this thread, I decided just to go ahead and wrap them up properly...

    Disposal of lancets

Yes, I was just the same. In the end I got on and did it a couple of weeks ago and it's turned out to be no big deal!

Can't make sense of it all

Blimey you're making me blush. Don't forget the chocolate digestives! I'm not a saint.

    Disposal of lancets

Yes I think I'll find a compromise and just use the lancets a few times. Then I've seen somewhere about putting the used strips into an empty detergent bottle, sealing it with tape and putting it in the bin.

And well done to you too - I've just looked at your results in another thread on LCHF. I'll try to go easy on the experiments!

Can't make sense of it all

Thanks for your responses. I guess what I take from this is that I have to watch my protein intake as well, and it is worth testing at 4 hours as well as 2 when I try something new. I also think it shows that if you have a high-carb pig out, the effect lasts for days ... So I've learned from...

Can't make sense of it all

I forgot to say that Tuesday evening was when I tried out the carrot/celeriac mix (120g), with a bit of roast chicken. I expected a rise, but it wasn't evident until 4 hours later.

Can't make sense of it all

Thanks Mike, I am low-carbing because I want to lose weight and have done so successfully this way in the past. Now I am prediabetic, I also want to use it to control my blood sugars. I went off the rails seriously at Christmas and have just gone back to it properly in the last fortnight. I...

    New to monitoring

Thank you everyone for your encouraging responses. I think I would have got quite different readings a few weeks ago - since Christmas I have been on a 'denial' binge, but buying the meter has forced me to think again about what I am eating. I think Ian's point about portion control is...

    New to monitoring

I was quite pleased that before dinner last night I had a low reading of 5. Then I experimented with having quite a big portion of cauliflower with my meat. Post dinner it was 6.2 at 2 hours. Although that isn't particularly high, it is still quite a big jump isn't it? I did feel a bit...

    New to monitoring

Thank you both. Yes I am quite pleased as I have tested tonight pre-meal and got a reading of 5, so there is a downward trend. I also moved the gauge down on my lancer to 4 and succeeded in getting a reading, so hopefully it just needs me to practice more. As you suggest Ian, I am probably...
