Hi All I’m a type 1 of 48 years and starting again on Low Carb. I inject Novarapid and Lantus. I split the Lantus into 2 injections, morning and evening A high protein meal significantly increases my BS so I’m injecting for carbs with the meal and the protein approximately an hour later...

how to regulate exercise on a lchf diet?

Also worth looking at HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) as this will raise your BS instead of lowering it. I cycled home from work last with a BS of 3.9 (I'm type 1 by the way - 42 years) and by the time I got home my BS was 4.6. All this entailed was cycling at an average pace (not...

    Type 1 advice.

Hi Hughsey Sorry to hear about your problems. A good starting point to sort out your BS's could be to drastically reduce your carbs in each meal, which will in turn mean you will drastically reduce your insulin. Especially your fast acting.

High blood sugars but low GI eating. Max 100g-120g carbs a day.

Hi Pennyjwills robert72's suggestion of low carb is excellent short term for getting your BS's better on track, and in the Long-term is excellent for diabetic control and health. Dozens of studies have shown that Low-carb is far better than Low-fat for weight loss. :) I'd advise doing some...

    Long acting enquiry

Hi Cuddles1985 DonnaC-T has hit the nail on the head. In a\n ideal world Lantus would last 24 hours but studies have shown it doesn't. Quite often you are looking at 18 hours. Try splitting your dosage in 2 and taking it 12 hours apart. eg 9am and 9pm

Carbs and basal- is this normal?

Hi Char87 Have you tried eating your extra carbs during the day and having a low carb evening meal? Before you go to bed have some fats/protein eg a spoon of peanut butter, or some full fat cheese and a handful of dry roasted peanuts. “Fat can be looked at as a positive addition to a snack...

High sugars that won't come down!

Like Noblehead I'd suggest a change of insulin. There are so many possible solutions that I'd get the possible medication problem ruled out first.

    What does everyone think...?

Hi Broa87 You can find that a Low-carb or Paleo dietcan give you excellent results for ever. But bare in mind that you need to spend time reading up on how it can/will affect your diabetes. eg as your body adapts to using fat as fuel (instead of carbs) you may need to take insulin with meals...

My BG goes up three-four hours after dinner. How fix?

HI Popit Other things that can help are:- Pay attention to the glycemic index (GI). Generally speaking, the higher a food scores on the glycemic index, the faster it will hit your blood sugar. Combine high GI foods with foods that can help slow your digestion. These include high fiber foods...

    Advice when exercising?

Hi Kathryn321 Sometimes the amount of information you get can be an overload when trying to control your BS's. If you are relatively fit (and you sound like you are!) try to incorporate some HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) into your routine or completely replace your low/medium impact...

Type 1 on Low Carb, HIgh BS after early morning HIIT

Thanks mo1905 Thought that would be the case. I can control my DP pretty easily, and I can control my increased BS from Interval Training (If I do it later in the day) pretty easily. But when I'm doing both together (Interval Training, first thing in the morning) that's the problem!! lol Thanks
