    Fantasy "Diabetic Holiday "

I am enjoying this thread... I have been wracking my brains for about 10 mins thinking what I would do if not diabetic for the day....and aside from the obvious benefits of not needing to carry a small pharmacy around with me I really can't think of anything.... Maybe the last 17 years have just...

    Clumsy hands

If your doctor is limiting your test strips he is not doing his job properly. I would remind him that his surgery gets more money if its diabetics are better controlled... So that ought to appeal to his self interest... Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

    Maybe people will start listening.

Just read the article. Seems to make sense. Argument for type 1's ( my focal point) seems be less carbs = less chance of error when working out your dose.... Agree but, just work it out? I like eating carbs! Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

Doctors: Please treat me like that medical student who sat in the corner watching....

Well - after being slightly taken aback the consultant rose to the challenge. We then had quite a meaty discussion about some of the latest research papers I might want to go and read... Trouble is in 6 months time it will be someone else and I will spend the first 10 minutes describing my...

Doctors: Please treat me like that medical student who sat in the corner watching....

Sorry this is going to be a bit of a rant.... I am a university graduate with a good degree. I am also an actuary (which means I spend all day doing statistics and analytics) and have been controlling my diabetes relatively well for 17 years. In short I think I know a thing or two and would...

How do you feel when high?

How do I feel when high? Well if explaining to a non diabetic I will say... "just like you feel after you have eaten a massive xmas dinner and feel like sleeping it off in front of the tv!"

The Good Things of being Diabetic

On a more serious note - I was diagnosed at 17 (type 1) and am now 34 - so that's precisely half my life. Since I was diagnosed I have: - been to university - got a professional qualification and a great job - got married - got two amazing children - bought a nice house - drunk nowhere near...

Should I tell my new boss?

I would urge openness and honesty. I was too coy about things in my first job and regretted it and after that decided to be more open. In general that has always worked for me since and it is quite liberating now to be able to openly shoot up at my desk....

The Good Things of being Diabetic

best thing about being diabetic (type 1) is being in touch with my inner caveman... I really don't think you have lived until you have stumbled out of bed and down the stairs at 3 am with a massive hypo (having ignored the sweets next to you) and opened a fridge full of highly appropriate food...

    Odd hypo

Double your breakfast dose can't have helped....:) I expect the hot weather could have had something to do with it as well though - always makes me more prone to a hypo.

How old were you when you first diagnosed with type 1?? And how long do you have it??

I was age 17, am 34 now - so has now been half my life! - what a thought!

    Does heat affect your bgs?

sorry, yeah I was perhaps a bit unclear.... I find I get low bg more frequently in hot weather. Actually the worst for me is normally the first warm day in spring (after a run of cold weather). Almost a guaranteed hypo that morning....

    Does heat affect your bgs?

Yeah, hot weather affects me big time (type 1) ... I guess in a similar way to doing light exercise. I think this is one of the things I find most challenging - it's not just about what I eat.... My BGs are also affected by: - hot/ cold day - busy/ easy morning commute (and whether I have...
