    Prediabetes fears!

As @Pasha says, don't panic, prediabetes is not full blown diabetes, it's merely an early warning...assuming you are even prediabetic. With some work it IS possible to achive normal blood glucose levels. I had to lose quite a bit of weight and watch my diet but I now have entirely normally blood...

    Update

Yep, mending nicely thanks @Brunneria - it's taken longer than planned and I've had a lot of complications (more unlucky that diabetes or fitness/weight related) but I just have 1 more surgery to go in June and then I'm hopefully back swimming not long after...you know how much i loved my...

    Update

Thanks guys, I wasn't even sure if you'd remember me as life got in the way a bit. I've had a rocky few months with 5 surgeries in 5 months (last one this week) but I'm now reaching the point where I can put focus bck on my lifestyle changes again. I had never given up on that side of things...

    Update

Forogot to say i'm currently on a high protein low gi carb diet with 6 portions carb a day - or that's the plan. To be honest, I don't usually get more than 4 portions of carbs but I've been told to stay on this until I see the nephrologist about my kidneys. I lost much more weight with low...

    Update

Hi all, I haven't been here for a really long time because life kind of got in the way for a while. To be honest I didn't really have anything to update from a diabetes point of view, but I recently had my a1c tested, for the first time since I was told I was prediabetic last August. I've lost a...

    Emotionally still struggling

I thought 44 was pre-diabetic (48+ for diabetes). I'm pretty sure it is? Mine was 44 and I had to fight to go on Metformin...my GP told me he'd have to refer me to the hospital to get it.

    Overeating - tried CBT?

Lol well I'm glad you think they're sensible! I'm still here, just having a really difficult time right now and not really wanting to drag others down with me. It's a blip, I know that, but nonetheless, it's not easy being me at the moment. So, what's new? Well I kicked the binging (kind of)...

    Could this be true?

It may depend if she had periods of binging. I have eating issues myself and I'm told the binging and starving may have contributed to my borderline T2 now. That's because when you're starving, your pancreas gets lazy, so when you binge, your BG goes very high. Doing that constantly for 10-15...

Actually, I like the blog idea :)

Weight loss surgery, anyone any experience?

For what its worth i do think the psychological help for eating issues is getting better. The problem is many don't know the help exists so don't ask for it and some doctors aren't proactive at suggesting it. I'm having great results from CBT but it's slow going and probably the most difficult...

    6.5 mmol/L

Welcome to the forum. I have FBG 6.5 too - prediabetic. Now on metformin but had to be referred to Diabetic Clinic at local hospital in order to get it cos apparently it's not licensed in prediabetes. Not sure about Glucobay though. Docs don't seem to want to treat prediabetes, so I don't hold...

    Honeymoon period confusion!

From what I remember of my paediatric nursing days (a while back now), it does indeed sound like he's in the honeymoon period and, as you've noticed, the insulin amounts can seem so tiny it feels like there's a mistake with the diagnosis. It's rare (and in my experience, unknown) for people to...

LCHF diet to help you lose weight, not diabetes

Sorry, but I don't see what all the fuss is about. People can choose to take advice, or ignore it, just like the advice their GP gives them. It's all "stuff" to think about in my opinion.

Did you try PALS then? Never fails for me.

Impaired Fasting Glucose: when to worry, if at all?

Exactly. I asked. Refused. Didn't push it because I didn't actually want to be diabetic. Denial is everything LOL

I'd complain to PALS....and/or ask about a referral to a different centre...

    Almond Flour

You can buy ground almonds - it's the same thing I'm told. I've used it and it does work, but it's expensive.

Impaired Fasting Glucose: when to worry, if at all?

I'm told OGTT's are falling out of favour, except during pregnancy.

    weight

Don't give up Ally, it can take some time to see results. Sometimes we just need to tweak things like our portion sizes to force things along a bit. You're doing well Ally, keep it up :)

    I saw the doctor....

According to my dietician, cardiovascular markers such as cholesterol and BP tend to be better with low carb diets (he also tells me to replace carbs with some fats). I trust my dietician by the way :)
