Pregnancy above 35 years and T1

Hi Shonagh, Thanks for the reply. Lots of things have changed since this post. We decided to try for a family and were incredibly lucky that we fell pregnant within a month of trying, we are now almost 13 weeks. Congratulations on your pregnancy. I’m glad it worked out for you in the end...

Pregnancy above 35 years and T1

Thank you for sharing your story, it’s nice to hear you’ve not had any complications, even though as you say it gets harder as we get older. I’m sure your 3rd pregnancy was more challenging with two under 5 years! I think the only reason we are/were waiting was because we were hoping to do a...

Pregnancy above 35 years and T1

Hi, yes I certainly have. It’s nice to hear your friend with T1 as well has two healthy children. I know it’s the medics role to ensure we know about the risks but I think sometimes the discussions are always so negative it really doesn’t help!

Pregnancy above 35 years and T1

Hi all, Just wondering if there is anyone with some success stories for T1 women above the age of 35 years when pregnant? I’m sure there are many and I just need to hear something positive! I’m 34 and have been a type one for 27 years. My last hba1C was 50mmols so reasonably controlled. It...

    Supplement query prior to pregnancy

Hi Marie, Thank you that’s really kind. That’s good to know, I was worried if I would be taking too much folic acid if I took them so thank you for the advice. Helen

    Supplement query prior to pregnancy

Hi, We are looking at preparing to start a family next year. I’ve been working hard to get my hba1C down and it’s now down to 48 which I’m thrilled about. I’ve also managed to get my thyroid controlled as it’s been uncontrolled for the last year. I know I will need a higher dose of folic...

Blue Lagoon Iceland and insulin pumps anyone done this?

Thanks for the tips. I have my old pump so will be taking this with me as a back up anyway. As it's going to be very cold in Feb I was hoping to avoid the scenario of disconnecting and then having a bolus when out of the water! But like I say I'm worried about the pump getting to hot. Maybe...

Blue Lagoon Iceland and insulin pumps anyone done this?

Hi, I have a 640g medtronic insulin pump which is apparently waterproof although on a recent trip in Indonesia I discovered this wasn't the case with mine and was left 2 weeks without my pump. In Feb I'm going to Iceland and we are planning on going to the Blue Lagoon. If I risk taking my pump...

CGM & how to go about them..

Hi I am currently on a trial using the elite sensors with 640g medtronic pump and I must say i'm impressed. I had an issue initially but I think thats because I bled when the sensor was inserted. 2nd attempt and with a delayed time until the sensor was connected it seems to be pretty accurate...

    Insulin pump and CGM

Hi Just wanted a bit of info on Continous blood glucose monitoring and insulin pumps. I'm currently using the Medtronic minimed paradigm but I'm due to go into clinic in the next few weeks to take a look at some new pumps as I'm due an upgrade. I'm not yet sure which pumps will be available...

Worried sick newly diagnosed type 1 child

Hi Kev, I'm so sorry to hear about the diagnosis of your daughter. I can imagine it must be absolutely terrifying to go through it all with such a young child. However, I hope my own story and that of my younger brother will bring you some comfort and help you realise that your child still has...

    When's best..?

Thank you for your reassurance. Silly thing is I knew that all already, but think my GP panicked me a little. It's nice to hear some good stories of healthy pregnancies in your 30's and 40's. For me that doesn't seem like a late age to being getting pregnant. I think there is an awful lot of...

    When's best..?

Hi all, I just wanted some advice on what age you were when you had your first baby? I appreciate this seems like a ridiculous question and one that will obviously vary from person to person. The reason I ask is because of something my GP has said today which has got me thinking. I am 29...
