    Remission programme

I felt so ill and when I saw my GP he told me to go home and have a good meal and eat more calories per day. He also referred me to an endocrinologist who told me that I was one of his few patients who could honestly blame their weight on their metabolism and told me to eat healthily but...

Feeling despondent, not sure what to do.

@BarbaraG when I was first diagnosed my hba1c was 48 but, after taking Statins, it rose to 54. I came off them due to other side effects and my hba1c dropped to non diabetic levels.

    Remission programme

I tried it about 40 years ago - it was VLC and I only lost 7lb in 6 weeks! Unfortunately it also made me very ill as my metabolism slowed down and sent my body into ‘starvation mode’.

    Sugar replacement

I made brownies last week using Almond flour. I tested one afterwards and at 1 hour my BS was 8.5 but at 2 hours it was down to 6.5 so I’m going to try making a Lemon Drizzle tomorrow

    Wholemeal pasta and brown rice

I don’t have pasta very often but find that if I cook, cool and then reheat it it doesn’t affect my BS too much.

Unable to make appointment for bloods and see Diabetic Nurse

If it’s an hba1c test there is no need to fast as it’s an average of the last 3 months.

    Statin conundrum

Good idea to watch your sugar levels - I was diagnosed with an hba1c of 48 which rose to 54 within 6 months. When I stopped taken the statins due to other side effects my levels dropped quickly and have been non diabetic for 10 years. My GP annotated my notes as statin intolerant as we didn’t...

    Adventures in Sourdough

Did you slice the sourdough prior to freezing it as you could make your own scotch eggs by making breadcrumbs from it!

    Adventures in Sourdough

I always keep my bread in the freezer and take out a slice when required either for a sandwich or toast. It’s 12g carbs per slice but doesn’t have much effect on my BS

    Overweight type 2

Unfortunately whenever you see items on the news about T2 diabetes being on the increase they usually show an overweight person eating chips and pies etc so there is an assumption made, albeit incorrect, that if you are overweight you will get/have got diabetes but if you’re slim you won’t even...

Staggered and saddened by this information!

Hate advocado so I’ll have 2 eggs instead on a piece of low (ish) carb toast

    Idiots guide to bg readings?

I normally use courgettes thinly sliced for lasagne or spiralised for spaghetti however I sometimes fancy pasta and find that if I cook it, swill under the cold tap for 5 minutes and then reheat it doesn’t affect my levels too much.

What was your highest HBA1C reading ?

    Prescription delays

We used to have a 2 week turnaround but when I ordered a couple of days too early the surgery rejected the request without telling us and by the time we realised and reordered my husband was left for 2 days without one of his Parkinson’s pills which caused him some problems. In the end we...

What is considered low and high HBA1C

My hba1c has been between 35 and 38 for approx 8 years and I now have an annual blood test.

    Statins raising blood sugars.

I was diagnosed 11 years ago with an hba1c of 48 so just on the cusp of being diabetic. I was told by my DN that ‘all diabetics should be on statins’ so I took them and within 6 months my hba1c increased to 54. Due to other side effects such as muscle aches, dizzy spells and sleep problems I...
