    Re: To All Members

Hi Sue, hope you don't mind me quoting you here but I thought it was worth discussing. I can't speak for anyone else, but I managed to get my waking BG level from double figures to low 5s within a week. That's quite a big step! I needed to get to basics and concentrate on just one thing...

    Low carb brainwashing???

Just read this LOL Am I missing something here? Brainwashing? What the heck do we have to gain from promoting a regime that works? A shared feeling of success? A feeling that some good has been done? Oooh how sinister?! LMAO This would be laughable if it wasn't for the fact that people are...

    I love this forum!

I know things can get a little heated on here, and sometimes we take things perhaps to heart when there's no need, but I do love this forum. I can honestly say it has saved me from a fat, miserable and unhealthy life! Thanks guys!

    Give peace a chance!

OK I bit, I apologize!!! But can we stop implying that people following a low carb diet are stupid, obsessive, nut cases??? Let's all just grow up, eh? All we need is love! And prescription testing strips!

    "Self flagellation..."

LOL I read this elsewhere on the site, apparently if you follow low carb you must be some kind of masochist. This is such a misguided opinion, it's just wrong, wrong, wrong! When I have attempted weight loss in the past I have followed the low fat diet approach and I was eating this way when...

Think I'm gonna stick to the low carb board...

The amount of ill feeling on here is very saddening, I don't understand why people get so precious. If you don't like someones post, ignore it. If you don't want someones advice don't take it on board. Anyway I think it's much more pleasant experience just to hang out in the low carb board...

    Foods to take camping...

Last Bank Holiday weekend we went camping to Beddegelert in North Wales. Had a great time, BUT, it was a disaster in terms of low carbing! Eating carbs was just 'easier'. So after 3 days of eating tonnes of carbs I came home and continued the carb frenzy until Friday. It's been a wake up call...

I'm in Ketosis, but no weighloss for four weeks???

Just as the title says really. Been on a stall for four weeks, no big deal I guess, but what I don't get is the ketostix keep showing up dark purple! My understanding is that fat and/or muscle must be broken down for this to happen so why isn't the weight dropping? Obviously I don't WANT to...

Just tried Da Vinci vanilla syrup in my coffee...

Absolutely MINGING, put a tiny amount in, was mind blowingly sweet! I'm sure I can find a use for it as a sweetener in baking maybe but it was so overpowering in coffee. I prefer my coffee bitter I think. I've got a Kahlua one for my protein shakes, that smells like the real thing. Hope it...

Tried & tested low carb pita or flat bread recipe???

I'm interested in making my own lamb shish kebabs, low carb of course, and need to come up with a low carb pita/flatbread recipe. Would love to recreate the lovely pita's from our local greek but realize that a low carb version might never be as good as that. Does anybody have a tried and tested...

    Second month Hb1Ac...

Just had the results of my last HB1Ac, just two months after diagnosis... 6.1 (down from 10.9). Whoo Hoo! Not bad for two months, would have loved to have joined the 5% club, but have to wait 3 months for my next one, I'll get it next time. My fatty liver continues it's reversal, with even...

    Can I eat these?

I bought some rollmops (pickled herring) on the weekend in a 'luxury' marinade of white vinegar, onions and sugar. The nutritional breakdown touted carbs as being 24%. Bearing in mind that I adore these particular rollmops and I thought most of that carb would be sugar floating around in the...

    Maca heaven....at last!

Costco, £9.99 for 680g in a tin, easily the best so far. Hmmmmmmmmmm

    More Maca confusion...

OK, after the overly salty Macadamias from Morrissons I bought some from Asda, raw and unsalted! A packet I picked up in the wholefoods section has a CHO count of 11.4g per 100g, then I saw some in the homebaking section with a CHO count of 4.1g per 100g. Both ingredients listed Macadamia nuts...

Are some brand's Metformin more effective than others?

Hi I was wondering whether any of you had experienced differences in perrformance of different brands of Metformin? I was quite happily using the APS brand, doing well, then this month I was given Milpharm tablets instead. Apart from having a very violent reaction to alcohol on the weekend...

Macadamias, what's all the fuss about?

Bought a packet from Morrison's today, salted roasted macadamia nuts , 10. something grams of carbs per 100 grams - so not that low, tasted OK but salty as hell! Ate a few but got pretty sick of the saltiness quite quickly! Am I missing something? I can easily live without them...

    Salt!

Should I be worried about salt intake? There's a lot of reference to bacon, hams and other pocessed meat on the site and I have been eating more of these but am concerned about having too much salt, should I be?

    I'm first!

Na na na-na na! Hi all. I'm Dave, a teacher from Manchester. diagnosed November 2008. Went through the usual roller coaster of emotions and have now started to get my head around it. Have been following a low carb diet since diagnosis, don't really count them but guesstimate 30-50g a day. So...
