    Has anyone had this happen?

There are a lot of ignorant people out there - and a lot of thoughtless ones. My sister lives in the US. Recently she came over for a visit and she told me that she was 'disgusted' when the guy across from her on the plane got out a needle and injected into his stomach. She said it wasn't...

    Which Bread?

I just go by the number of carbs in a slice. In general, I will buy the small wholemeal loaves that are around 11 carbs per slice and I only eat one at a time, unless I'm going for a walk or being more energetic than usual.

    Infusion sites

I just work my way across my tummy each day for three of them, with one a day on a leg - the levemir. I find it's slower on the leg and not so effective, and I also find it more painful, but I prefer to have one on the leg than all of them on the tummy. I developed a lump on one leg and was told...

    Low blood sugar

4.6 is ok and you don't need the doctor, especially if he's eaten all that. It should be rising within 10 minutes, then just monitor it. I agree with the other reply, go for faster sugar when it's low, bananas and toast are too slow. Lucozade or orange juice is good. They do recommend jelly babies.

    Suger levels high

I just wanted to add that I have had a problem with baths too and was told to be careful. They tend to lower my levels faster than normal. Much faster than a shower, it seems weird, but true.

How can I use coconut oil

I like to bake salmon in foil, rubbed over very generously with coconut oil. Then I throw in whatever veggies I have too - tomatoes, leeks, courgette, mushrooms, peppers, whatever is in the fridge - it comes out really nice with the coconut and the veggie juices. I have a small baked potato with...

How many times do you happen hypoglicemia a week?

Thank you for that! I'm on Lantus and Novorapid and have been like this for so long that I guess I have had my head in the sand :( I'll take a look at the link.

So bleeping angry with my gp!!!!!!

That's so interesting because I was using AccuChek Aviva meters until a few months ago when my surgery supplied me with a couple of replacement bricks. The biggest downside, apart from the obvious awkwardness of these things in my handbag, is that they need more blood than my previous meters...

How old were you when you first diagnosed with type 1?? And how long do you have it??

I was 34 and that was 23 years ago. Having said that, I was first tested at the age of 18 and think it was missed for a long time. My specialist thinks I was always T1 and they just missed it. Explains why I never felt too well. So far no complications, touch wood! Insulin 4x a day.

How many times do you happen hypoglicemia a week?

My hba1c is too high at 8.7 and my endocrinologist wants me to get it down - but not at the expense of having more hypos. Even with that hba1c I get hypos out of the blue and often wake up in the night, and he said he would rather I had a higher hba1c than risk more hypos as hypos cause more...

Type 1: What are your HbA1c test results?

Mine is 8.7, just done two weeks ago. My diabetologist doesn't want me below 7.5 as I get hypos, but I wish I could get it below 8.

Things I learned from this forum

I was first tested age 18 in 1975 by a single urine sample and they failed to detect it. After the birth of my first child I lost a lot of weight and they tested again, same thing happened, that was 1981. I kept feeling ill and the need to eat sugar fast but they branded me neurotic. So 1991 and...
