How long after T2 diagnosis did you start insulin

About a year after diagnosis. I had been on Gliclazide but couldn’t get my glucose levels down no matter what I ate. Have been on insulin for about 6 years now. Although we’re not sure what type. Was thought it may have been steroid induced due to another medical condition but have been off...

    Immunosuppressive therapy

I am diabetic and also on Methotrexate and Rituximab due to Rheumatoid Arthritis. These have not caused any issues with my diabetes. I have also been taking Prednisolone since 2013, which can cause issues due to it raisingblood sugars - so sometimes need to increase my ratios.

    Degludec insulin

Hi. I'm currently on Humalog and Lantus insulins. I saw my DSN today and we discussed changing my Lantus to Degludec due to some night time hypos. She has told me to have a read up on it (which I am doing) and to ask for other people's experience of it. Is anyone else using degludec (Tresiba)...

    Does insulin cause heavy sweating?

I sweat from my head when my blood sugars are high, or if they are low. Have you tested your blood sugar when this happens?

    Hyper symptoms

When my blood sugars are high I could fall asleep on the spot - and yawn, also sweat a lot from my head and my mood can become very grumpy.

One week into insulin shots and no change

I'm on insulin - Humulin I and Humalog. It took some time to get to the right amount of units and gain control. It's best to do it slowly so that blood sugars don't drop too quickly. I hope that you find the right dose for you soon. Keep in touch with your DSN. I was able to keep in touch with...

    Abbot Blood Glucose Sensor

I have been using the sensors since I had a free trial at the hospital. I love it. I haven't had any issues with differences in readings. It can read differently as it is reading from interstitial fluid, not blood and can be up to 15 minutes behind. If you are concerned you should contact Abbot...

    Freestyle libre sensor

Hi. I received a sensor and a reader as part of a trial on Thursday. The specialist nurse (who's son is a Type 1 and uses these all the time) advised that you can use rock tape or vet wrap to secure a sensor if needed.

    Testing before meal

I'm under the care of a DSN at our hospital as my GP surgery don't have anyone who deals with diabetics on insulin. I was offered to be discharged into the care of the community nurses but I declined. Due to other illnesses it's not easy to keep my blood sugars under control. Sent from my...

** Possible Boots The Chemist Alert **

I stopped using Boots as there was a problem every time I tried to pick up mine, or my children's meds. I now use the Asda pharmacy - and haven't had any problems yet. I order my prescriptions online with my surgery and pick up my meds from Asda.

    Going abroad

Yea, you can keep them in your hand luggage but you will need a letter from your doctor. I have a letter provided by my DSN to say that I need to carry them.

    T2 started on insulin

Hi. Good luck with your insulin. Hopefully you'll start to feel better soon. I use Humulin I and Humalog. When out in public I generally do my air shot into a tissue/serviette. I haven't had any issues so far. [emoji4]

    Prednisolone

Hi. I have been taking Prednisolone for almost 3 years due to Rheumatoid Arthritis - and have previously taken due to my asthma. I was diagnosed with diabetes almost 2 years ago - steroid induced. However, I also have a family history of diabetes and had gestational diabetes - so the steroids...

do any of you take steroids and insulin?

I have been taking steroids since I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in May 2013. I was then diagnosed with diabetes on March 2014 - due to the steroids. But I also have a family history of diabetes and had gestational diabetes in both of my pregnancies - so I may have developed it...

Can you tell when your number is high?

I get blurry eyes, thirst, sweats, frequent trips to the toilet and can also have a fast heartbeat. Strangely I also get a chemical smell in my nose. I used to get this before diagnosis and didn't know what was causing it.
