Cant find a cereal that doesn't shoot my blood sugar right up!

I hadn’t had cereal for around 5 year until recently when I found high protein granola at Lidl. I gave it a try and although it still causes a slight spike, it’s manageable. If I bloused earlier I’m sure I could flatten that spike. But, I just can’t wait to eat it as it’s so scrummy.

    Cocktails for diabetics

Yeah you would imagine it would be. I'm absolutely fine with rum, even the spiced one which I would've thought to be sweetened but it's not. So, add a Cuba Libre ( with Diet Coke of course) to the list. Cin cin.

    Accommodating a Diabetic at Work

I would definitely suggest a frio wallet if your employee is concerned about the temperature of their insulin. I have travelled in 40 degree heat without a fridge, storing my insulin in a wallet - seems ridiculous to me. A room to inject though would be a good idea

    Letter for airport security

Thanks so much for the advice everyone. First time I've flown since diagnosis as T1 and was feeling a little apprehensive - now I can relax about it. :)

    Letter for airport security

Hi, thanks for the reply. It is on headed paper, although I think I could've knocked the headed paper up myself. I just thought it would have to be typed and not handwritten.

    Letter for airport security

Just wondering if anyone has used a handwritten letter detailing what meds they need to carry with them for airport security? Today my lovely GP insisted she just write me a letter so I didn't have to pay for a typewritten one. I explained that I wasn't sure whether this would suffice but she...

Kelp noodles and other carb alternatives

Hi Rowan - I use the noodles often and although don't taste exactly the same they're a good, practically carb free alternative. The texture isn't quite the same but I don't really notice anymore. I bought them on Groupon for £30 for 20 packs so not too expensive. I haven't tried the rice yet.

how many carbs is acceptable in a recipe......confused

Try popping the kale in the oven on a baking tray, sprinkle with a little salt, pepper and olive oil and bake for about 8 minutes. Alternatively, pop it in a frying pan with some coconut oil and cook until just crispy, really nice as an alternative to rice with oriental dishes..good luck

Can Type 1 Diabetics eat Chocolate ?!

I agree with the rest of the comments on here about dark chocolate. When I indulge I have 6 squares of Green and Blacks 85% dark chocolate and it doesn't seem to have any affect on my blood sugar. Plus in moderation it is actually good for you. Oh, and it goes lovely with a nice full bodied red.

    FREESTYLE LIBRE ON SALE!!!!

@tim2000s My consultant said exactly the same thing on Tuesday. He said each of the consultants had been given one to trial and the feedback was good from the patients. Thinks they maybe be available on the NHS sometime this year. Fingers crossed :)

    FREESTYLE LIBRE ON SALE!!!!

Still loving my Libre - however, haven't had a faulty one, yet!! Had my 3 month follow up appointment yesterday since diagnosis changed to T1/LADA, and my HBA1c down to 6.5 from 9.9. I somehow don't think I would have achieved this without the Libre, it has taught me so much in a short space of...

    Travel Insurance Cover

Hi Walshdon, My account is with Barclays and never had any problems previously. I wouldn't mind paying the extra but there wasn't even an option. I have found a medical comparison site ( see my previous post for link ) and this seems really reasonable. Maybe worth taking a look to see if...

    Travel Insurance Cover

Hi All, I found this site earlier: http://medicaltravelcompared.co.uk/medical-conditions/diabetic-travel-insurance.aspx I put my 2 admissions down and the quotes seemed to be reasonable, so fingers crossed I can get some insurance sorted...and then hopefully a holiday booked. Once again...

High sugar levels AGAIN feeling upset :(

It was about 4 and a half hours ago since my correction. It's now came down a bit but I will leave it a bit high and see what tomorrow brings. I will then experiment a bit with my correction dose as per advice given. Thanks again.

High sugar levels AGAIN feeling upset :(

Hi iHs, Thanks for the advice. I do think my ratios are pretty much correct and because I've been using the Freestyle Libre I'm pretty much certain that my Bolus is good too. I usually only go very high when I've not cooked and weighed the food myself as I'm really not great at guessing the...

High sugar levels AGAIN feeling upset :(

Hi Donnellysdogs, Thanks for the advice, I will try that. I did think my correction dose would be higher. I think my husband was served coke instead of diet coke ( no alcohol involved) earlier at the pub as my BG shot up about 10mmol in the space of 20 mins...I did eat too but know what I ate...
