    Diabetic Meet up/coffee/drinks

Provided the trains are running OK I can definitely stop by for an hour or so.

    Starting Again

Not as impressive as some of the old guard, but I've been type 1 for 10 years and no permanent complications yet. I have had a few wobbles and DKA's but no Diabetes related ER visits in 4 years now. I find it is good to talk about these things, which is why this forum exists, but also talk to...

    Hungry Before Bed

Ah I see, still personally I would be concerned about a 28 reading under any circumstances, I start to feel really bad about 15+. Everyone is different though... Hope I have helped.

What is considered low doses of insulin?

I typically use 3x12 units of Novorapid and 1x32 units of Lantus glargine every day, which compared to average is a high dose regime. My weight is pretty stable around 12 stone which is fine for my build (Male - 5'9" / 175cm) and dips down then up a bit when I am sick. Your insulin doses are...

    Hungry Before Bed

Those are massive swings in sugars for a very small amount of bolus (assuming this is mmol/l), were your activity levels or food intake very different on those days? I agree with gemma6549 that the 3 shots of bolus is only the routine and you should feel free to top-up when appropriate.

    Hungry Before Bed

I like some hummus or pasta before bed, something starchy. I agree with not taking extra basal, a small amount of bolus may be required, but I would start off not taking it and see if you go high during the night, bolus before bed can be a risky business with 4am hypos. Best of luck.

    Worst date ever!

I have been told to inject elsewhere when out and about, some people are needle phobic so I can see why they would be uncomfortable, but I would expect people to be mature about it and not make a scene. I generally ask if everyone I am with is OK if I inject when i need to, and if someone has a...

    Double hypo :(

I wouldn't take a sleeping tablet in this case, there is a chance you will wake up in the hospital. Glad you are starting to feel better, keep some snacks nearby to nibble on and watch some TV :)

    Thirsty...

Someone else with a similar issue here: http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/always-dehydrated.66735/ My response: "I struggled with this for a few years, turns out I do not tolerate gelatin at all and it made me so thirsty I would drink until my stomach hurt. Possibly you have something...

    oily hair??

When I have a hypo my hair will get oily, but that is the opposite cause sort of... what I am trying to say is that diabetes can affect your hair, but for me it is a different cause. I am unsure how this might help, but I hope it does!

    always dehydrated

I struggled with this for a few years, turns out I do not tolerate gelatin at all and it made me so thirsty I would drink until my stomach hurt. Possibly you have something similar. Does this happen after eating something in particular?

Diagnosed a year ago, having some trouble coping...

Hi Callum, I have been a type 1 diabetic for 10 years now from 17 to 27 so I went through a very similar experience. It is really annoying to not be able to join in as much as you used to, the biggest changes for me were cutting back on pizza and junk food, and doing the carb counting. It can...

Changes in insulin regime on night shifts?

"lantus in my opinion doesn't last the 24 hours that it's advertised to" - Agreed I used to work odd shifts, it is difficult to dose for, especially if you don't know what you are going to be doing (Sitting at my desk / working in the warehouse / riding in the van / etc... ). My advice is to...

    Diabetic coma - hypo

I haven't had one yet, but I have come close. I get the sweats and the DKA, The first time I didn't know what was happening and I assumed I just had a stomach bug, after 3 days I finally called a doctor who got me to the ER. I have also had the hallucination like feelings during a hypo a few...

What are people running at generally ?

I am normally in the 5-9 mmol/l range, I have tried increasing my insulin it bring it lower but I end up with hypo's all the time. I need to modify my diet to make it vary less but it is hard to find the time to cook :(. I have tried eating more wholegrain stuff (bread, rice and pasta) but it...

    Diabetes Fatigue

Hi Earman, I have been Diabetic for 10 years and treat with Novorapid and Optiset injection I have neuropathy in my feet and hands, but from talking with others it seems mine is pretty minor. I haven't had any retinopathy yet, no signs on my last eye check, but this complication is what...

Manufacturing problem with Sanofi Solostar Pens?

I prefer having to set it every time actually, it makes me think about what I have been doing and perform appropriate adjustments instead of just going "Meh, 40 is probably fine..."

    A cure!

A type 1 cure is still a long way off, there still isn't a consensus about the root cause yet, which would be a good start. Hopefully treatment will continue to improve. @Ilya83 there is a fair financial incentive for governments to invest in cures & better treatments for diabetes, it is...
