Obtaining funding for a replacement pump?

A good friend of mine is due a replacement pump as his pump is approaching it's end of warranty, I will be in the same position later this year. His control has improved fantastically since being on the pump but he is getting himself wound up that his CCG won't approve funding for his new pump...

    Waiting list for a pump

After 10 years of trying at my previous hospital (not very pro pump) I gave up, transferred to a new hospital who were very pro pump and within a few months I had my pump. Totally transformed my quality of life (over 40 years of being a T1), control is the best it has ever been.

How long did you take off?

Had a day's training and back to work the next day, I did test my BG quite a bit more than usual but glad I got straight back into things as that way I feel benefited me more in that I could get my basals sorted based on my normal daily routine.

    Airport Security

I had a hospital letter from my pump nurse and my GP, I was all prepared for a pat down and when I was directed to the scan I immediately explained I couldn't and would like a pat down, apparently it was the first day the new scanners were fully operational in the north terminal so they wanted...

    Airport Security

No, I refused. It was a horrible situation, 2 security staff reduced me to tears, insisting I went through the scanner and other people with my pump (Medtronic) had been through with no issues, I was made to feel like I was exaggerating and being difficult. I requested a pat down but they kept...

    Airport Security

Same thing happened to me :( I understand Gatwick have since updated security staff with the option of a patdown for pump travellers.

    Libre Sensor Allergic Reaction

(Just to say, obviously I am no expert and pirinase isnt suitable for everyone, I am only posting what worked for me).

    Libre Sensor Allergic Reaction

I had terrible reactions after my 6th sensor, cavilon spray worked for a while but then that lost its effect. I read online elsewhere (sorry can't remember where) of someone who used pirinase nasal spray before inserting the sensor, so I tried it, I now have no reactions at all :) I spray the...

    American healthcare vs U.K. Healthcare

I guess it depends on the insurance? My cousin lives in the US, her insurance used to cover everything, then she had a $6,000 annual deductible imposed, she decided to self fund her diabetes care (thankfully she is working) but felt it more cost effective to forgo her pump and CGM to self fund...

    Pumps and airport security

This is what I decided to do for my next trip through Gatwick, I will be travelling alone and was worried about my hand luggage being kept waiting for me whilst I went off for a pat down (this is what happened to me at Gatwick but thankfully I wasn't travelling alone). Next time I will...

    Pumps and airport security

Be ready to stand by your pump instructions, I had a nightmare recently at Gatwick, tried to make me go through the body scanner, the guy just kept saying other people had gone through the scanner with no problems and my walking through the metal detector causes more damage. It was a very...

any type 2's on a pump?

Some of my T2 friends in the US are on pumps and finding it extremely beneficial, Phil here is a rarity in the UK but it just goes to show that despite diabetes type, the pump can and does work for us, I just wish it was available to more people

Can I come to your hospital please ;)

6 months trial comming to an end

One thing though Phil, do you have a dedicated pump nurse/co-ordinator? They're often responsible for securing and renewing funding with the CCG. For example my pump co-ordinator puts through my funding renewal request/report 1 month before it's due, then when she confirms it's renewed I...

6 months trial comming to an end

Phil, I know it's easy to say (although I worry every time too) but try not to worry. I know things re funding are slightly different for you as a Type 2, but given how things have turned round positively and so quickly since you've been on the pump I'd be very surprised/shocked if funding were...

Adult perceptions of diabetes as a child

Interesting thread and I must admit sometimes when I read posts from parents of type 1 children, although I do understand their fear and concerns, I do have difficulty understanding things such as claiming PIP/DLA. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, just I don't understand. Here's why, my...

    UPDATE

That's fantastic :) unfortunately I'm suddenly going the other way and needing substantially more insulin, think it's possibly my body saying T1 for 40 years, enough is enough :(

FreeStyle Libre problems - skin reactions and inconsistent readings

Have had awful skin reactions, cavilon worked at first but then stopped, tried everything else from compeed to special adhesive from my pump team. In my case I've come to the conclusion that it's not just the adhesive but the actual sensor in my arm. Within 1 hr of inserting my latest sensor...

    ILL with a cold

Definitely temp basal increase and like has been said your pump will work your correction dose out for you, just input your BG. You may need to change your insulin sensitivity ratio, might be worth setting up a new pattern for sick days. I'm sure you're already doing so but keep a close eye on...
