Wheat bread is likely to increase your blood glucose alarmingly. You need to test before and 1hr after eating and test again 2hrs after eating to see how different foods affect you. It's the only way to work out a diet that is good for your bg. Many here eat to their meter. Aiming for a not more...

How do you tell your family you have diabetes?

Easy one for me. I was in hospital at the time being diagnosed with cancer and almost died in a&e. So after the family were told I was not going to make it and then told I had a very aggressive cancer and could go either way, and then I also had steroid induced diabetes (from the drugs to keep...

    Which Meter do you use?

Got one or these sent free. You need an iPhone or iPod to use it. I think Android phones now have an app for it as well. It is not a stand alone meter, more or an adapter for your phone. It uses a standard type Lancet but has no storage for them. It does store the strips but there is no case...

    So What Happened Here?

Yes. Probably the soup. Corned beef has very little or no carbs. Some people here find onions can affect them as well as the carrots and turnip. Fortunately I seem to get away with onions and carrots but turnip always spikes me. I love them all. One of the benefits of having to take insulin is a...

One hour cycling lowers my BG levels by 10% to 20%

On something like a ten mile gentle cycle ride my bg can drop 25 to 50%. This can happen even when eating 200g + of carbohydrates throughout the day. I also get a large drop after around four hours after the ride. I normally feel a hypo at about 3.8 but after a pedel I can go as low as 2.2...

    Fridge blues

Always in the fridge. The family understands it has to be there and not to push it to the back where it would freeze. It has to be in the fridge so food is no 2 on the importance list. I have a fridge thermometer that sits on or next to the insulin. Don't take chances.
