Any experience of T1 management in care home or hospitals

Thanks for responses - and david4503 the link you gave was very helpful. I've had two brief hospitalisations and on both occasions it took about 2 days of 'argument' before I got the necessary clearance.

Any experience of T1 management in care home or hospitals

Apart from the general 'not for me' thoughts about going into a care home or hospital, the matter that freaks me out most is that I cannot envisage how either can manage a T1 other than by ensuring much higher BG levels than is desirable. Would love to hear of anybodies experiences - either...

    Type 1 Type 2 to Type 1

I believe there is far too much attention paid as to 'what type' - if you are insulin dependent then it doesn't matter what it's called - you are insulin dependent -

Recovery time after Grand Mal ?

Had a Grand Mal 2.5 days ago (30yrs since one on this scale) - still feeling totally knackered - would be interested to hear from others as to how long it has taken them to get back to 'Feeling normal, after a GM. I know it was triggered by extreme hypo (< 1.0) and I know why. It's the recovery...

    WaveSense Jazz - carry case

Gloucestergirl: - think it will be very difficult/next to impossible to find another case in which has the same sized 'pouch' for the meter itself - plus sensible retaining loops and space for the lancing device plus the stick tub.

    WaveSense Jazz - carry case

Yes there are loops - but the space for the lancing device plus the strip container is just too small.

    WaveSense Jazz - carry case

Have just been issued with WaveSense Jazz kit - I know I'm thick but just can't work out how to fit the lancing device plus the test strip container into the carry case. There are two retaining straps into which I presume they should fit - but if I do squeeze them in (squeeze being the...

Are there any insulin pens that record dose and date ?

Starting to get forgetful - and sometimes don't remember what dose I've given and when - so an insulin pen that automatically records dose and time given would be a godsend. Is there any such thing ?

What do you use to 'treat' hypos ?

What do you use when out and about - do you have the bottle with you all the time?

What do you use to 'treat' hypos ?

In the early years I used things like Lucozade tabs - but didn't like the taste/feel in the mouth when chewing, not to mention the fact that they would crumble in my pocket and leave a mess. Eventually came across Maxim Instant Energy Gel - find it very convenient, portable for out and about...

    Has anyone had this happen?

As Slip says - testing a far bigger problem (and is a metaphorical PIA)

    Has anyone had this happen?

Theoretically yes- in practice no- at least not over the 40 yrs I have done so. In fact when first diagnosed I well remember that my Dr told me that one of his professors (who was himself a diabetic) injected through his trousers and told his students that he thought the 'sterile site' mantra...

    Has anyone had this happen?

Frequently need to inject in public places - and to make it reasonably quick and discreet - I simply inject through my trousers or shirt as the case maybe.

    Highs and lows.

A high following a very low could be simply that you over compensated - or it could be what is known as the Somogyi effect where your body pumps out a load of glucagon in order to compensate . This gives a fuller explanation http://www.caninsulin.co.uk/Somogyi.asp Personally I sometimes find it...
