    HbA1c Result - Advice needed

Thank you, I am almost 6 ft and weigh 82 Kg. I have been trying to control my T2 by diet and exercise. My a1c has stayed around 56-59 since Dec last year. I can do more with cutting out carbs but when I get anxiety, I always eat something (banana, cereal bar (no added sugar)) and that makes me...

    HbA1c Result - Advice needed

Brettsza Thank you for your reply. The reason I was taken off the meds was that I had been suffering from anxiety and false hypos. Looking at your A1C, I am really impressed. Are you on meds as well? PSS

    HbA1c Result - Advice needed

Just had my HbA1c result. It is 59. Slightly up from 56 last time. I am T2 and having had seizure in the past and suffering from anxiety, my nurse took me off all meds on 01 Dec 14. My doctor thinks I should not have been off Metformin and should go back to one Metformin 500 mg/day. What are...

    Type 1 Retinopathy

My last eye test was graded at R1 - Background retinopathy. Same as about 2 years ago. Personally I would say, don't worry too much as background retinopathy just means regular checks and does not require any treatment.

    Eating Out - Indian Food

Indian food is no different from any other when it comes to diabetic control. My advice is go easy on rice (even though its Basmati), Naan bread - go for plain roti instead. Have starters of meat that are usually cooked in the Tandoor (Oven) as much as you like. Above all enjoy the meal :-)

    Goodbye All

Gemma Sorry to see you go obviously but I understand social media/blogs/forums are not for everyone. We recently introduced Yammer at work - and some people have taken it to heart and yet a lot of people hardly ever log on ! Best of luck for the future. What I would say is whilst this forum...

    Diabetic Meet up/coffee/drinks

Apologies for the late reply. This pub is quite popular during the weekdays evenings. I have never been to the pub on a Sat - so I'm not too sure. Having suggested the venue, I have just realised the meeting is for T1s. I guess it disqualifies me as I am a T2 diabetic :-(

    Diabetic Meet up/coffee/drinks

I am in London, would also like to join in (although I might be away on the suggested date). May I suggest the Fitzroy Tavern, Charlotte St as a possible venue?

    Abusing Gliclazide...is it dangerous?

Abuse of any medicine can be dangerous. Gliclazide will bring the BG down and if not careful, can cause Hypo. A sever hypo can lead to seizure. I for one will not do this !

    Im lost :(

Kate It is understandable that you are feeling lost. My advice is for you to eat sensibly - try to reduce sugary drinks/high carbs food etc. Wait for your results and then try to adapt your food intake. Finally, don't let diabetes rule your life. It is a condition that you will learn to live...

Advice needed - do you ever feel like this?

I am T2 and am trying to control it by diet and exercise. In the past I have been on Metformin, Gliclazide and Sitagliptin. I am almost 6 ft tall and weigh 81 Kgs. My BG in the morning is usually around 7 mark, occasionally in sixes. I am usually at my best in the morning. I find after having...

    Healthy rice substitute...

We have basmati rice. One way to reduce the starch is to boil them for 5-7 minutes in plenty of water. Once cooked strain them - most of the starch is thus thrown away and rice still taste lovely! I find the above method of cooking basmati better then the normal way of add water and leave them...

    One Small Step ....

I stopped taking all meds on 01 Dec 2014 as I was suffering from anxiety/depression. Was used to get really scared by false Hypos. My HbA1C in Oct 2014 was 58. Since then I have been trying to eat carefully and have added regular walks to my regime. Just had the blood test done and my HbA1C...
