    Turned down pip

A pump would be a complete waste of time as it involves a lot more work and commitment than MDI Just realised this thread is more than a year old.

    Blood Sugar Diet Type 1

Simple solution for the hypo is to cut your basal a couple of hours before you exercise, then you wont go hypo and need extra carbs which = weight gain.. :) Try doing some basal testing so you can see what is going and if your basal is correct double check all your other settings, hopefully that...

How can I get a pump without doing Dafne course?

As far as I understand all you need do is prove you can carb count. I never did a DAFNE course and had no intention of doing one, as I pointed out to the dietitian I had carb counted from the age 5 with the help of my lovely mum and as the years went by obviously honed my skills as more and...

    Help with pump and doses!

You need to go back to basics and do a basal test then any changes need to be made 2 hours before the event (high/low) so if low at 10 am then drop your basal at 8 am. The hospital tesm wont bite your head off for asking advice, they are there to help so if worried or don't understand something...

    Advice on basel rates

Basal rates do change due to you being human and not a machine :) One factor is always the weather, you will probably find you are burning off a lot of calories/carbs keeping warm in the cold weather hence the need for less insulin.

    Anyone remember these syringes?

I can not understand why anyone in the 1980's would boil syringes or needles as the industrial spirit kept everything sterile I was diagnosed in 1965 and can not remember ever having my needles or syringes boiled.

    Advice on the insight pump

Hi Sarah, You might find it a struggle to get the pump you want due to many hospitals refusing to issue the pump due to the problems with it. both Devon and Cornwall have stopped using the pump due to so many problems with it.

    Used Accu-Chek Combo Pump

No idea what country you are in but in the UK you wont be able to have a 2nd hand pump because because the NHS pays for the pump thus it's not the patient's pump to sell. You would also need a letter from your consultant to be able to buy a pump and supplies. So you need to get your consultant...

    Driving after laser

Hi you have to inform them but leave it for a few months so things settle down a bit as you will be required to do a field vision test. Obviously the results will determine as to whether you keep your licence or not.

New User- Ready to give up

Just clip the pump to your pocket or position it somewhere else on your belt. I've never had anyone comment on my pump which is clipped on my pocket. The tubing is long enough not to interfere with toilet needs, you unclip it for a shower so can't see a problem there at all. It sounds to me as...

    Infusion set problems

You need to put a hot compress on it a few times a day to draw out any muck ad keep an eye on things if it starts to get very red or more pus appears then see your GP. As you don't like your inserter the easiest thing to do is change to a cannula that doesn't need an inserter problem solved :)

    Fiasp

Hi Fiasp is great as long as you use it correctly, it's def not a miracle insulin but yes I've had very few problems with it. Your insulin resistance will improve with weight loss, so you need to set yourself a realistic goal for each week/month that way you don't become disheartened if things...

    My Fiasp Findings So Far...

Fiasp's duration is anything between 4 1/2 and 5 hours it peeks from 1 - 3 hours which is what catches people out. As the profile is different people do need to learn not to expect and or use it as they would novo or Humalog. I changed over from using animal insulin so to me it was a completely...

CGM and getting driving licence back

Hi Tracy the CGM reads about 20 mins behind your actual finger poke test. It's written in stone no hypo awareness so no licence A CGM is no fail proof either so do be warned.

    My Fiasp Findings So Far...

I'm 6 1/2 months in with Fiasp, so far so good with a few ups and down's. The two most important things with Fiasp is to nail the basal first and always split the bolus. After a lot of experimenting I've found splitting the bolus 80/20 for meals except for the obvious pasta meals works very...

CGM and getting driving licence back

I Tracy, I doubt any type 1 unless running high all the time would be able to go 3 months without a hypo. The issue is hypo awareness if you have none then for obvious reasons you can not hold a driving licence. CGM's are not recognised by the DVLA for monitoring blood sugars either. So I hope...

    Animal insulin pump

All bovine insulin's are being discontinued as stated by the manufacturer there are withdrawal dates on their site as to what time frame they are working to. Plenty of notice has been given so people can try different insulin's. Basically there are no more crystals to manufacture bovine insulin.

    Cleo 90 infusion set

What you need to do is run your finger around the edge of the cleo so it removes the stick from the edge before you insert it. :)
