Type 1s: What stupid things have people said to you?

Health insurance screening check 'do you still take insulin?' I did ask if there was an alternative?! Silence. I was tempted to add 'if you've found an alternative , you'll probably get a Nobel Prize!'

Type 2 Can I eat Shredded Wheat?

According to the Dafne guidelines for T1 shredded wheat contain 1.5CP each (weight 22g), so for a bowl of two you would need to double this plus account for milk and any toppings. Bolus to match your insulin sensitivity ratio. If your a type 2, I have no idea!

Type 1.5 Unexplained drop in reading. Is this normal????

Hi, I get a mid morning low as well. The reason (I am told) is the Long acting (Lantus) is doing its thing. I'm on a tiny Novorapid dose at breakfast (to stop spikes) and even dropping this doesn't stop the low. I was only diagnosed a few months back as a type 1.5 and I believe the pancreas can...

Driving in Europe (Spain/France) & Glucose testing

Hi, I'm presuming the rules for driving are the same (or similar) to the UK (DVLA) for T1 & T2 on Insulin, i.e. testings 2 hourly and before, 5+mmol/l. Anyone know for certain?

gliclazide, type 2 and the police

If you are reckless or unlucky you can still be guilty of a driving offence. Hypos and driving are bad. Big problem for T1s & others. Some recent examples: http://www.blackpoolgazette.co.uk/news/crime/diabetic-crash-driver-jailed-1-7081748 and http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-kent-30586720 -...

gliclazide, type 2 and the police

Us type 1's have to test before driving and two hourly thereafter. If you have a hypo when driving you are a danger to yourself and others. A type1 recently received a custodial sentence for causing death by dangerous driving due to a hypo and not testing. The rules are a pain, but they are...

Rubber wristband that has my info on the inside and medical alert on outside. I don't take it off. Hopefully it will never need to be used, but could save me. I got mine from http://www.theidbandco.com/ and went for Customisable Silicone Bracelet. Very pleased with it. Looks like it should last...

Looks Like diagnosis is 1.5/LADA- any advice/questions I should need to ask?

As a LADA diagnosed at 47, I felt much better on Insulin, though I was massively GAD positive. I like insulin nearly as much as beer now!

    "poorly controlled" = our fault

Two thoughts. The HCP could give evidence in person or an independent expert witness could be called.
