Diagnosed type 1 four days ago, couple questions.....

Also to add, don't forget the honeymoon period which you may go through which makes it difficult to get those doses right in the earlier days. This period can last week's, months or in rare cases a couple of years. Worth bearing in mind.

Diagnosed type 1 four days ago, couple questions.....

Q1 it takes a few days for the insulin to start to bring your levels down. Don't worry they will come down. Q2 hypos only happen when you have too much insulin and you haven't eaten enough carbs to balance it, or the day after a heavy drinking session but I would Google this separately to...

    Typical doses

Type 1 since October 2014. Taking 5 lantus and 2 or 3 novorapid with meals although I don't take any for breakfast as I head to hypoland mid morning. Some days I only need lantus and others I need 4 novorapid with a meal but generally it's been the same since diagnosis.

    Honeymoon period

I think I am currently in the same boat L3wiser. I was diagnosed in October last year and after 4 weeks my reliance on novorapid dropped to the point I didn't need it breakfast and sometimes even lunch. Currently taking 5 lantus and 3 rapid but the last few days after tea I have hit 12 or 13...

What is considered low doses of insulin?

Type 1 since October last year so still honeymooning. I was taking 3 novorapid with each meal and 5 lantus on an evening but stopped with breakfast dose completely as was heading to hypoland around 10.30am. Sometime miss lunchtime dose too for the same reason. Yesterday was a random day as I...

    The Big Question: Alcohol

I am like mark, newly diagnosed, well 6 month type 1. I like a drink and always have done. So far I have pushed it and at my worst had a 14 hour session on lager and was fine but my DN told me to have pizza on the way home without fail which I do. Also don't drink on an empty stomach and bolus...

Introduce Yourself: Answer Some Personal Questions

Hi Erin I was only diagnosed type 1 in October last year and still honeymooning myself. Only taking 2 or 3 units of novorapid with meals and 5 lantus at the minute and it's not changed since I was diagnosed. Hope my honeymoon lasts forever. Good to hear from a fellow honeymooner :)

Hi I am new to this forum.

I have only been diagnosed type 1 since last October at the age of 39 and already I am sick of trying to explain it to people. More education and awareness needed. TV adverts, maybe diabetes UK could invest some money on TV advertising for awareness?

    Newly Diagnosed Type 1

You may also 'honeymoon' like I have done for 6 months and your blood sugars will stabilise in the main without much worry about getting the insulin doses as accurate. Good luck and long live the honeymoon period!

Type 1 Honeymoon hypos and advice

DN said it's too early to cartb count although I kind if was but found no pattern. Fixed on 3 rapid each meal and 4 lantus on an evening at the moment although today I have only had 2 rapid with Xmas dinner and no lantus. 4.8 at the minute.

Type 1 Honeymoon hypos and advice

Hi, I was diagnosed type 1 in October this year and I am aware of the honeymoon period and such and I am definitely there at the moment. Yesterday after 3 crumpets for breakfast and my usual 3 units of Novorapid my bloods were 7.1 which I was happy with. Half an hour later they were 2.6. I...

What was everyone's blood when they go diagnosed?

I was craving loads of full fat coke and drinking pints of the stuff and thinking this tastes amazing but got even thirstier from it. Was 2 days later I went to docs and was diagnosed so got sorted quickly.

    Advice

You may still be honeymooning if you are newly diagnosed so your pancreas may be a bit sporadic and producing insulin in spurts. I was told it was a little too early to do ratios because I was honeymooning. Currently taking 3 units of novorapid with each meal and 5 lantus so not taking much...
