Type 2 Best foods to eat

If you haven't already got one, en seriously consider getting a blood glucose meter. It will soon tell you if you can tolerate oats.

Food (or is it drink) for thought

Trop50 is a lower carb fruit juice. I have this on a weekend breakfast only , and it now tastes very sweet. I use to drink a lot of fruit juice, and when I switched I noticed the difference.

    michelle. new Type2.

You're in the right place. There is a lot to take in, but within a few months you'll be sorted. Best advice I can give is to buy a Blood Glucose meter and test the food you eat to see what spikes you, then eliminate that from your diet (using food swaps)

Type 2 Stabbing Pains in The Abdomen

I find some brands of Metformin react differently. One gives me wind, another stomach cramps. 2 others no side effects so I now ask for the brand to be specified. Same active ingredient in each.

    Anyone use a fitbit

I use a Garmin Vivosmart. It integrates with Garmin Connect to track sleep and also MyFitnessPal for logging food and keeping track of intake. If I am inactive for 45 minutes it vibrates and makes you want to get up and move.

X-pert course updated to include LCHF

In warmer weather the fluid intake is increased. I put this purely down to fitness and 'fat' burning instead of sugar reliance. I usually have a protein shake when I get home (water not milk) and a cooked breakfast (bacon and eggs) then am ready for anything. With a calorie deficit of about...

    Cold Feet

I've lost 32kgs since diagnosis and wear fingerless merino gloves to/from work on all but the coldest days when I wear full length merino gloves. My beanie is my friend too, and at home I wear socks or slippers to stop my toes getting cold. Normal pulse, good blood flow etc but I think it's...

    LivLife Bread

My local Waitrose only gets 1 loaf every 3-4 days, so I usually buy fresh and stock up / freeze from Ocado. Great tip about Amazon!

how to regulate exercise on a lchf diet?

I'm type 2 but also on LCHF. I can now easily ride 30 miles fasted (nothing but water) at just under 15mph average. 25 mins easy cycle should be achievable if you are eating more than 40% of your intake as fats.

    Trying a low carb diet

Livlife bread from Waitrose / Ocado. 3.8g carbs per slice Goes well with Cashew Butter :) I also love Protein Rolls from Lidl 10g per roll) with Fleischsalat (meat and mayo dressing) and Black Forest ham and salami. Milk Roll (Sainsburys) at 8g per slice is also good. Very thin but I use it in...

Low carb and weakness too little potassium?

Hi Lila I'm type 2 and understand there are differences. However, when I started cutting down my carbs I went through the fuzzy stage - it lasts several days. On the plus side, no more cramps in my calves. As I have lost weight I now have more muscle definition. I worked on leg strength...

X-pert course updated to include LCHF

Bobby59 I have read the thread with interest and thought I would chip in. The photo of me is old now, I have lost another 10kg since then, following a LCHF lifestyle for the past 15 months. In total I have lost 32kgs, 10 inches off my waist, and dropped from 16.1 at diagnosis to 5.1 on my...

Carb flu - how to get past it?

I would suggest tracking your food intake using MyFitnessPal. It's a free app/website. You need to be completely honest with it though. Portion sizes will have a dramatic effect on your Blood Sugars when you record the foods you're eating. Track your intake for the next week and see what you're...

The good the bad and the ugly

Testing will help you identify what breads you can eat. I have found that some turkish bread does not raise me by very much, whereas a naan bread sends me sky high. Potatos in small quantities are okay but bread flour in general is a no-go cheese triangles, hummus, frankfurter sausages should...

Type 2 I need advice with a low carb diet as I feel really low on it

Go back to testing yourself before and after meals to see what effect the fruit has on you Once you have identified what spikes you and what doesn't you'll be on your way to managing this again. Have you considered other sports such as swimming or cycling to help with the weight maintenance?
