Should I get a new BG monitor

Hi, T2, following advice from this forum I bought an Aviva accu-chek monitor when first diagnosed about 5 year ago. The strips are quite expensive and I normally get 50 for about £12 to £15 via eBay. Q. I’m out of strips and before I buy, should I be considering an alternative / new one / or...

Have you cured or reversed type 2

Thanks for this reply, I probably fit into this well, great first two years, then sloppy, put on pounds, just a few treats etc.. Now back on the straight and narrow and realise can't cheat the system. Only recently back in the 6's. I will hopefully remain and will heed these good words

The Hidden Killer. Type 2 Diabetes.

I don't think they needed to be so graphic on the amputation. However, It's hit home with this body, I hadn't strayed too far from the right track, but this has made me reflect on my behaviours. Thanks goodness I don't have a sweet seriously sweet tooth. It just those bloody magnums always...

Weird breakfast habits....what weird recipes have you put together ?

I am not sure how I arrived at the recipe (loose description), probably read too much and can't walk past Costco organic range....but breakfast on the go has developed into Put kettle on Body a 45 degree angle to kitchen work surface, 30 push ups ( can't do those awful floor ones). Get bowl 2...

    Funding discounted testing strips, eBay

I read a lot about what the NHS should be funding, and realistically how cash strapped the system is. So I decided to fund my own accu check testing strips. Half the price problem is they are only sold at inflated retail prices. I recently started purchasing via eBay and on average can get 50...

    MARGERINE OR BUTTER.

Butter but you can't get through to some people, my good lady keeps bringing in the easy spread lurpack "Which tastes just like butter", I don't use but children always go for the easy option.

    Dr Unwin

He has saved my local NHS trust a good few hundred ££'s, on diagnosis in 2014 they instantly wanted to put me on metformin and statins. I went away, read up, joined this site bought his book and a few months later all normal. 18 months on I started to slip back over Xmas putting "a little"...

Intentionally eating "bad foods" to see how your body reacts

My BG have been good rarely above 6 in morning and well controlled after food, and I broadly follow the LCHF. Last Wed I had that " what if" thought. Had a particularly stressful day in work followed by a large glass of red and a big slap up salad.....then...(my good lady has a taste for the...

    Managing high cholesterol and T2D...how?

This has been a really informative thread for me thanks. Q. Some foods I thought were natural and good and low on the GI index such a quinoa , I have used to replace the rice and potatoes, but reading the labels again, some are high with omega 3, fibre, protein, but also high carbs ( although...

How much alcohol do people drink per week

When first diagnosed about 6 mths ago I knew booze was a big factor as to where I was, and suspect I had T2 long before diagnosis. Stopped booze, dropped weight and got under a reasonable control. Then read (on here I think) a Glass of Red a day was ok, somehow over the last month that has...

    Some do - Some don't

I haven't counted Carbs and instinctively I sort of followed a low carb change to eating when diagnosed T2 last Aug. Not done me any harm, dropped around 4 stone and BG seems to be in range. Things I avoided like cheese (at first) I have allowed back into my diet. I have a question, I have just...

Poll: Which diabetes course(s) have you attended?

Never offered a course (T2 9/2014) learnt most things from here and reversing diabetes book and if nothing forth coming will either go for a private course or dietician advice consultation. The current NHS advice doesn't seem to reflect the advice on the forum, which would make me question value...

Thanks I have been wondering about the same thing, my only concern was if you took a reading and it was a High BG. Would a residue stay on the lancet and effect the next reading.....strange didn't think about the hygiene issue...
