DKA risk if 2.7 keystones but blood gas clear?

Thanks for the reply! I knew I didn’t have DKA yesterday, just keytones. It just concerned me that they thought once the blood gasses are done then I no longer need to be checked! The article you’ve mentioned and the advice about either asking what their policy is or asking to also speak to...

DKA risk if 2.7 keystones but blood gas clear?

Hi everyone, So I’m in hospital for a non diabetes related infection. It’s a pretty bad one so I’ve a temperature of 39 degrees that won’t budge and I’m on numerous IV antibiotics. I’m a t1 diabetic too. I don’t have any method of testing my keytones with me as I’m on a surgery ward and I...

Blurred vision in 1 eye for 1 week

Hi all, well just got back from the opticians, he thinks everything looks ok, and thinks it's just down to the erratic blood sugars (which I'm working on separately) It has stopped me worrying to get it checked though :)

    Tingling feet

I had tingling I one foot some years ago, although I'd just had a baby at the time and the dr said it was a trapped nerve from child birth. He also told me that neuropathy tends to appear in both feet at the same time. So maybe worth getting your dsn to check your feet over?

Blurred vision in 1 eye for 1 week

Hi all , T1 diabetic, background retinopathy for past 15 years (diagnosed almost 29 yrs ago) I've had very erratic blood sugars the past week either hypo or +16 mmol. For the past week one eye has been very blurred, and my eyesight has always been perfect. Not sure whether I should A) not...

GP reduced blood strips without agreeing this with me first.

Yeah I feel sorry for the NHS, I'm sure most of the Drs are simply following orders from those who hold the purse strings! Anyway, an update about me - and a happy one :) I called up the surgery, after writing an essay to quote about all the nice guidelines they've broken - but rather than a...

GP reduced blood strips without agreeing this with me first.

Glad to know I'm not alone! As for cost - I'm not sure they realise that us not having the best care now, will eventually cost the NHS more money when all of the complications kick in for having blood sugars unchecked to a suitable standard.

GP reduced blood strips without agreeing this with me first.

Thank you all so much for the advice Lots of good ideas to help me go to the gp and get this sorted hopefully! I don't have a consultant since moving counties, my new gps is in a little backwater and I don't think they see many like me! ;) My hba1c was very high a few weeks ago, mainly due...

GP reduced blood strips without agreeing this with me first.

Hi, Wondering if anyone has any advice. Without telling me first, my doctor has reduced my repeat for blood checking strips from 4 bottles per month to 2, which for me I don't feel is enough. They tried last year to put me on cheaper strips, gave me a machine 'just to try', and even though...

    Type 1: Prescription fine

I had similar a few months ago, a month after the fine letter I had a letter from them cancelling the fine as they now knew I had a certificate, although I had to pay the prescription fee for the month or two that I wasn't covered by the certificate .

    Being honest with your doctor

Thanks all for the advice. I have no intention of not talking to the dr about these issues, I was just wondering if such things have caused problems and I've now got some good advice on how to fix it a bit :) @Diakat my child is not quite there yet , I'm trying to involve him now and he's...

    Being honest with your doctor

Yep, I know it does, but I also know me and my body if i haven't done fast acting insulin in a while it seems to go up quicker even if I haven't eaten! But everyone is different and diabetes is not a perfect science. I'm not really after a debate about whether a pump is right for me or not, if...

    Being honest with your doctor

it's not so much hat I forget, but often I'm interrupted - a pump would mean I had the insulin with me - if I'm stuck in a work meeting or pulled away by my child I just feel it'd be easier. Also the constant insulin would stop it going high in my opinion! I realise my dr will be notified - but...

    Being honest with your doctor

Hi all - my first post here!, I very carefully watch my diabetes, due to a busy job and small toddler to look after once i'm home - it does bounce around a lot from high to low.. mainly because i'll get interupted by my toddler when about to do my injection, or his terrible sleep patterns mean...
