    Pastry

I have discovered a "carnivore bread" recipe which uses egg white protein powder, gelatine and eggs which works really well for me as a pizza base. I've seen it used for sweet rolls (with cinnamon "sugar" or similar) too..

    Gout and diet advice

I had 3-4 gout attacks that started after I began low carbing. I never accepted allopurinol, but was prescribed limited numbers of colchicine tablets, which stop the pain within a couple of days. I didn't change my diet, and don't plan to - it works so well for me. Also, I have a hunch that...

Meal sequencing (Veg first, Carbs last)

This has recently been popularised on Instagram by the self-styled "Glucose Goddess", and I she even wrote a book, based on her experiences with wearing a CGM. It's not just the order of eating, but also starting the meal with vinegar (as a drink or salad), never eating "naked" carbs and more...

    ozempic & Type 2

Really? I have been on Ozempic for almost a year and on a very low carb diet as well. No issues, except an excellent HbA1C and finally getting into a normal BMI range.

Why are people rushing to NOT take the wonder drug?

Of course it isn't. I was giving my personal example in answer to the OP.

Why are people rushing to NOT take the wonder drug?

I took it for a number of years in my 20s/30s to help improve PCOS. It didn't do much, except give me occasional bouts of explosive diarrhoea. I don't know what was happening inside as my GP didn't check my bloods, and about a decade after I stopped taking it I developed T2D anyway. I'd moved...

    Pressure cookers

I replaced the seal twice, but I never even knew you could replace the valve. I'll look it up on eBay, thanks!

    Pressure cookers

I have an old pressure cooker which I use a lot, but it has been going wonky (sometimes letting all the steam escape). I've been looking at Instant Pots but there seems to be so much variety, from £90-£250. Are there any particular models or features that are recommended on here, please?

Dream Fields Pasta - Is It Too Good To Be True?

I occasionally use Slim Pasta to add to rich, textured sauces such as Bolognese or venison ragu. The taste is nothing like pasta, but the (rubbery) texture gives the dish a bit more interest. Otherwise, for Carbonara and delicate type of sauces I use courgetti (and not the spiralized version -...

LDL cholesterol in diabetics and statins

I take it every day, but not all year round. I buy a 2-months supply, finish it, then have a break (usually a few months, sometimes less, once over a year) before getting a new bottle. I take a lot of supplements on such an irregular schedule, I could not afford to take everything all the time...

LDL cholesterol in diabetics and statins

I was referred to a lipid clinic because my total cholesterol and LDL were significantly above normal after my carnivore experiment (there was a LOT of cheese involved). There I got the spiel about statins, but also carotid and aortal scans (ultrasound and radio) which showed 0 plaques. The...

Possible link between sweeteners and cancer?

Thanks for pointing this out. I've recently read that sucralose (Splenda) "kills half of your gut microbiome". This was in Steven Gundry books (I didn't have the chance to follow up the studies he cited), and he is very big on our "gut buddies" that produce postbiotic short-chain fatty acids...

What is your go to favourite treat

I have been known to dip crispy bacon into clotted cream. Not often, though!

New study on importance of early bed times

Hm, what if you don't eat breakfast? I'm surprised that they didn't look for fasting blood glucose changes.

    Midnight Low Glucose

I recently got a couple of Freestyle Libre 2 sensors after not using one for a long time, and I noticed something interesting. Almost every night, between midnight and 4 am, I have 1-3 dips into glucose level of 3 or below. They always come back up almost instantly, and I never wake up with a...

Fed up with my feet. 46 years on this type 1 treadmill.

As you mentioned Amitriptyline, that was the only thing that helped me with the pain of a trapped nerve in my shoulder blade (affecting my back and arm) - codeine (which is an opiate) didn't work for that type of pain. At least for me. Good luck with seeing your GP today!

What is Dr Mercola up to nowadays?

You know what - I don't know, and I don't care. Certainly, Mercola is not the hill I want to die on. As I already said, I don't agree with some (many) of his current views. Yet... Hydrogen peroxide apparently has "bactericidal, virucidal, sporicidal, and fungicidal properties"...

What is Dr Mercola up to nowadays?

Again, is this myths, or anecdotal evidence? He is certainly not the only one to promote hydroxychloroquine in the media (apparently, Joe Rogan used it when he had Covid). And anecdotal evidence is surely what a lot of people take into consideration even on this forum. In addition, some...

What is Dr Mercola up to nowadays?

I also used to rate Mercola for his alternative health advice (keto and fitness), but am turned off by his anti-vax rhetoric. However, I don't think that shutting down people with alternative views is the right way. People want agency in health and an availability of options. Regarding the...
