    Dietitians!! are they helpful

Yes! If you know which questions to ask. I went to see one and she was great - portion size (and the corresponding amount of carbs per serving size). Sample menus, a list of food (by carb content), substitute food, and a heaps of tricks and tips. I paid for it myself and it was money well spent.

    Hunch about Chinese...

Most Asian cooking is made up of a combination of 'tastes' - sweet, sour, salt and spicy. There are no recipes as such, only proportions (and they're pretty subjective) so the same dish, made by different cooks, may taste quite different. Indian is pretty much the same only Indian relies on the...

    Hunch about Chinese...

My first reaction was "I don't eat Chinese because I don't know how to cook them!" [emoji3] I eat a lot of Chinese/Indian and general Asian food. My rule has become "if I can see and recognize what I'm eating, I'm fine". It means I can control what I eat (including battered meat and dumplings)...

Does the heat make you feel ill

I've lived in the Tropics for nearly 40 years and have learnt a few tricks dealing with the heat and humidity. Just breathing we lose about a liter of water a day. Our bodies constantly ooze water (regardless of temperature) so we only notice it when we sweat. It's the drying of that sweat that...

    Morning Dump

An afterthought; testing. I would test two hours after eating. Obviously that gave me a higher reading. Out of curiosity (and reading about diabetes in pregnancy) I started testing four hour after eating only to find my readings were "normal". I can handle carbs. My pre-bed level was lower...

    Morning Dump

My morning blood is also high. Usually the highest (except post-meal) reading of the day. The "why" was driving me crazy because the more carbs I ate, the lower it went! so I went to the Endocronologist. Basically, my Liver suffers virus damage and when my BG gets too low the liver does its job...

    glucose level goes up overnight

I've posted in "Not Diabetic Anymore. Confused As Heck" Too long to rewrite here but I went to the Endocronologist and found out WHY this happens.

Not diabetic anymore??? Confused as heck :(

OK, long post alert! I thought I had a handle on the whole "Diabetes" thing until Mikej1973 and Brunneria replied to my earlier post. ***? Three diabetics - three different experiences? In theory at least, they should be the same! My overall experience is way, way different from Brunnerias'...

Not diabetic anymore??? Confused as heck :(

Folks! Can we take a step back here. Diabetes is diagnosed as a result of a HBA1C. Over 6 and you are labeled "diabetic"! That's it! It's medical culture. I'm in the same boat as many of you. Four successive 3 monthly blood tests have come back below 6 so technically I'm not diabetic any longer...

Type 2 do you think it is self inflicted?

I was fine until I got a nasty "Viral Haemoragic Fever". After that I was diagnosed (and even that was an accidental diagnosis).

Do you have any foods that spike most people, but are fine for you (and vice versa)?

Everything I read told me pineapple was 'poison' but, screw it, I like fresh pineapple! So I had some and tested! Nothing! It puts my blood up less than any other type of fruit.

    Reflexology ok for diabetics?

I get a foot reflexology massage every week. No problem at all. From memory, the pancreas reflexology point is on the outer edge, midpoint of the sole of the right foot. My last HbA1c was 5.8 so Reflexology (combined with low-carb and exercise) works. ;{>

    Feel better at what level

Hi Lillirpop. I also feel better around the mid-6 range. Below that my legs get really heavy I use coconut sugar (Gula Melaka) in cooking and found I can get away with it. That said, I don't have a sweet-tooth so I don't use it as a 'sweetener' as such, more to moderate sour or bitter tastes in...

If you have upped carbs from 50 to 80-100g.....

Yep. I agree with everyone so thanks Daffodils1, Uart and Enclave because this has been something that has been driving me crazy! When I was diagnosed I was told my blood would never be below 6! I avoided carbs like the plague and ate to my meter. Doing that I learned which foods I could eat...

    Freestyle libre in Thailand!

I live in Malaysia (just down the road). I've never had a problem getting my BG testing kit on a plane (I carry it in my 'man-bag'). Heat and humidity can affect electronics but just keep it in the shade to keep it cooler. Drink PLENTY of water - dehydration will creep up on you unnoticed and...

    Boring low carb

Try Going online and finding an app called "Yummly". It searches the internet for recipes in various catagories. Set your filter to "Lo-Carb" and search. Being basically clueless about food but finding myself in the position of having to cook my own lo-carb meals, I've found it invaluable in...

Sleep patterns effect on morning readings?

Can I ask a (probably) stupid question? Sleeping patterns? I go to sleep late (around 12mn) and wake about 6.30 am (Piccaninny Dawn) and I've noticed my BG creeps up slowly after I get up. My average is mid-5s. My friend (a careful T2) wakes at 8am and averages sub7s. We all have different...

    Buying test strips in Asia

I live in Malaysia. Most brands of meters, lancelets and test strips are readily available through pharmacies - not the Medicine Hall (traditional Chinese Medicine places). You just go in and buy them off-the-shelf. Last time I was in Beijing I noticed a number of "Western Style" pharmacies but...
