Had a toe amputated in the last couple of years?

It is really concerning that people are having to buy their own dressings as far as I am concerned that is totally unacceptable granted some treatments might not be available with NHS funding as it is but dressings should be prescribed

I had a leg doppler and now scared

Hi. The leg cramps you get at night do you also get them when you are walking? As far as I am aware quinine like in tonic water is not routinely prescribed for cramp although some people find it beneficial. Many people have reduced blood supply to their feet and legs.If you have had a doppler...

    I need help!!

Welcome to the forum. Both of us did Desmond a few weeks after hubby was diagnosed It goes through everything and we both came out with a much clearer understanding of diabetes. They do teach the traditional cut fats thing but did acknowledge that carbohydrates do cause a rise in blood sugars...

    trying to help partner

It sounds like you have a struggle on your hands. The hours he works must make it difficult to get regular eating in and i wonder if it is just a habit he has of always eating/drinking/smoking at those times. This might sound daft but have you both sat amd talked about his diabetes and how he...

If she is hypo ing that much on the week its not normal. I would have thought she needs to adjust her insulin as it seems she is taking too much but i would urge you to speak to the GP or practice nurse.

Totally confused and angry with treatment by Doctors and Health unprofessionals

Low carb is def worth a go. When you think about it carbs break down to glucose which is......sugar hence why carbs cause sugars to rise. My hubby is on Metformin but within 3 months got his HbA1c down fr 93 to 43 and his cholesterol from 6.6 to 5 and no statins involved he has also lost 3...

My husband was offered a place on DESMOND within 6 weeks of diagnosis i went with him and we learned a lot. It was only 1 day and is aimed at people with type 2. There were about 7 people who had had diabetes for various lengths of time. I wasnt looking forward to it at all as I am not keen on...

Had a toe amputated in the last couple of years?

Hi I am so sorry to read of your expereances it is traumatic enough undergoing an amputation without feeling that things are not porogressing. Work as an NHS podiatrist in a foot clinic and we dont routinely use NPWT on what we term chronic wounds I.e.a wound over 6 weeks old as it does not...

    1st HbA1C

Hes def a type 2. He has lost about 2 stone in weight since diagnosis which is not bad in 3 months and is feeling much better in himself. Based on his blood sugar readings and my simple maths skills i reckon it will come in at about 50-53 but i am not making any bets on it! He has reduced his...

    1st HbA1C

Hi I do not have diabetes but my hubby does. He was diagnosed in January with hba1c of 96. Next week he goes for his 1st review after 3 months metformin (1000mg twice daily) what sort of level would be achievable within this time? I am just going to be happy if its less than 96 tbh. We have done...

dealing with a husband newly diagnosed

His blood sugars are now in single figures they were randoms of between 15 and 19 at diagnosis. It amazes me that what we both thought (without ever looking into it) that logically carbs were the enemy, It seems that is the thoughts of everybody i just dont understand why the NHS is advising...

dealing with a husband newly diagnosed

Thanks for that info Daisy1 we have been given very little dietary info but are going on the DESMOND session next week. Interestingly the change we have made is to reduce our carbohydrate intake but once you start looking you find carbs hidden in all the unlikely places!
