The carbs and Cala app is great now it’s been updated and a lot easier to have to hand instead of carrying that big book around!

    Scared of losing my vision

One final thing I would say if you’ll bear with me. With hindsight I read up on it too much. Read too many other people’s stories who were maybe less successful. And it made me a million times worse. You can’t compare. We’re all so different, from time of diagnoses to treatment to HbA1cs. Don’t...

    Scared of losing my vision

Speak to your diabetic team. I saw the clinical psychologist a lot. I was worried about seeing a psychologist but she helped me sooo much with my anxiety. It’s really bloody tough this disease. But you are not alone. You will not miss out on your baby’s growing up. It takes time. A lot of time...

    Scared of losing my vision

Hi. I’m sarah. Type one for 21 years and went through this during summer. I’ve had countless bleeds. Countless laser. Still more required. But I’m good. I’ve got my sight in both eyes. It gets worse before it gets better that’s so true. And I had a lot of stories from people less lucky so I...

    Constant eye bleeds

Take painkillers before the laser that helps. My first time for laser it wasn’t horrific. Had no time to think about it so no time to work myself up. What I can say is that in the grand scheme of things it’s quick. Drops go in to numb. You put your head in a machine like the ones they use to...

    Constant eye bleeds

Hi It’s been 4 months since posting this and I’m going for what I hope is my final laser on 13 th. Once the bleed happened I had frequent bleeds in both eyes until the laser treatment had happened enough to start to stop them. It’s taken 4 months because you have to wait 6 weeks after each...

    BG figures and colds

Hi Your BG levels are definitely affected by colds and infections. For me infections normally send me high but colds not as much. I find I eat differently with a cold has that been the case? Also have you taken medication for it as some are not suitable for diabetics?

BG rising very high after exercise

Hi. What your BG is before you exercise is important. Because the first hour of vigorous exercise can increase your BG I understand that you shouldn't exercise if above 8mmols to start with. I made the mistake of if I was high I'd go for a run to try help bring it down rather than injecting...

    Toujeo

I take 34 units a day so I use within the timeline. I keep in the fridge purely because it's easier. I take at 930pm and I tend to be home so I keep in the fridge, my alarm goes off to remind me so it's the same time each day and I take it from the fridge

    Diabetic retinopathy

Thank you for responding. I have that guilty feeling that I'm wasting people's time or I'm over reacting but when it's new and your sight it's so scary. I've now totally lost all vision in my left from the bleed. It's cloudy and full of blood so not detached retina. Thanks again

    Constant eye bleeds

I was diagnosed with proliferative diabetic retinopathy in June. Since then I had laser on my left followed by a large haemorrhage which has taken all this time to clear and left with floaters which a surgeon is watching to see if he needs to operate to help take the blood away. I've also now...

    Toujeo

I'm on Toujeo. Have been since October. I take mine at night now and I'm finding much better control. You definitely need less than lantus. And I understand that if you alter doses on Toujeo alter by 4 units at a time but wait 4 days in between another alter to see the effects. I keep mine in...

    Diabetic retinopathy

Hi. I've recently started with proliferative diabetic retinopathy. I've had a large haemorrhage in my left eye on July 7th which is being watched to see if the blood drains away of its own accord On Aug 11th my right eye started to bleed and I've had some laser on that. Now I'm waiting til the...

    Really struggling

Stress is a major factor with diabetes. I'm not on the pump but was considering it recently. Having lived with type 1 for 20 years it's only in the last 2 months I've realised what an effect stress has. My day job is pretty stressful and I couldn't work out why I was low all weekend but...

Scared to put in sensor. Frustrated with type 1

Don't forget different foods absorb differently and therefore have a different effect on your blood. I couldn't understand why I spiked after some lunches but not others thanks to the libre I could see and it was my diabetic nurse who reminded me that white bread absorbed faster than granary and...

Stress and Blood Glucose Levels - Thoughts?

Hi. I'm type 1 20 years and have been constantly struggled with my sugar levels being up and down. Recently it was suggested to me to try halving the amount of insulin I take out of work vs at work. And it worked. Basically the stress of my job means my sugars were up all the time at work but if...
