Blood pressure tablets giving me swollen feet?

I get swollen feet, and I think it's due to the blood pressure tablets I'm taking - 10mg each of Ramipril and Amlodipine. I suspect it's the latter that's the actual culprit - I cut that one down to 5mg for a while and my feet seemed much better. I believe this is one of the known side-effects...

'Discussion' with my doctor about glucose testing

Well, not so much a 'discussion' as him telling me in quite strong terms that I'm testing too much, and that he can't tolerate me ordering so regularly. I admit I probably have been testing too often. But the doctor in the Diabetes clinic I saw last week told me that testing often is actually a...

    Progress since my 'wake-up call'...

Hi everyone, A few weeks ago I posted for the first time, having effectively received a 'wake-up call' with regard to my diabetes care (see the post here). Well, I'd just like to say that my care has improved massively in the last few weeks, and I now feel on top of things. It still needs...

Hot bath = worst hypo ever?

I'd heard that having a hot bath can sometimes decrease blood glucose quite rapidly, but had never believed it... until last night. At 10.12 my reading was 6.7, and I knew it was on the way down and probably should have had something to eat, but instead I decided to have a quick bath. Whilst in...

    Retinal scan results frustration!

I went to see my GP today (Friday) to get the details of my recent retinal scan, which according to the letter I received apparently showed some 'diabetic changes' (that's all it said - though it also stated that no action was necessary at present). I ended up seeing another GP, since mine was...

Portrayal of diabetes in the media

And by 'media' I mean films, TV, drama, etc. I have yet to see a character with diabetes in a film or TV show whose condition is portrayed with any accuracy, or appreciation of the nature of the condition. The most egregious example I can recall is in the film 'Con Air' from a few years back...

Sometimes forget if I've taken my Lantus!

Sometimes - well, it happens only occasionally - I forget if I've taken my Lantus. Taking it is a daily habit, of course, which I do without thinking, so sometimes it just doesn't register. It happened today - I didn't sleep much last night so my brain's a bit fuzzy and although I'm pretty sure...

    A wake-up call...

Hi everyone, OK, so this is my first post. I've actually been a member for over a year, and only occasionally visited the forum, but this past week I've had what I think is a wake-up call in terms of my diabetes management. I was diagnosed with Type 1 almost exactly ten years ago, at the age...
