    Going "Out Out"

Alcohol ruins any kind of awareness of what your BG is, just drunkenly test lots. Remember if all goes to (radio edit.) and you go low coke is available on tap, so you're never far from a sugar supply. I've needed insulin before, but depends what I'm drinking. Aim to be a little high (7/8) is a...

Frio Wallet Sizing and Traveling Abroad

I would suggest taking 3 weeks worth of insulin for the 2 week trip. As already asked - are you using disposable pens or refillable? I can fit 2 pens and 2 spare cartridges in the duo wallet if it isn't fully soaked, just needs 'recharging' more - I currently recharge twice a week and it's...

    Type 1: Worst hypo ever!

Think my worst so far was in Cyprus, was just rolling out of town and up a hill and felt a bit weak trying to pedal up the hill. Tested at 2.3, looked in my bag which I thought was still packed with food - nothing! Rolled back into town and sat on the harbour, got my phone out to work out where...

    What's in your prescription?

Currently I have 10 novorapid cartridges 10 lantus cartridges 900 test strips for agamatrix 400 Dario test strips 100 4mm needles The agamatrix test strips are special for the next 6 months of a 3 month supply. The Dario ones are my standard ones which I'll use again afterward my trip...

    Is this ok

Assuming the bag is correct, 500g/166 servings is 3g of that stuff per serving, which is going to do very little, even if it was 100% carbs. Edit: It's an amino acid. It might affect the BG levels, but it'll be indirectly, rather than directly. Test & compare to normal. It'll probably be fine...

    Exercise for type 1

Yes you can - exercise will lower your BG. Watch out for hypos!

    Type 1 - Daily carbs

Probably somewhere around 2-250g/day. I suspect over the summer I'll average 400-600g/day. Going to be fun [emoji106]

    Frio Wallet Sizing

    Positives of having diabetes?

I only got diagnosed last year but it probably gave me a slightly different perspective on life and what I'm doing. I still can't get over just how relient on a few injections a day and just how much of a challenge it can be to control! If I can keep control of my BG every day, then I can do...

To snack or not to snack...

I would always bolus for a snack. Stacking can be bad and I've noticed tends to be harder to control but in my opinion that's much easier to deal with than a high BG before the next meal!

    Work don't understand

Pre- diagnoses I knew approximately nothing about type 1 diabetes. Wouldn't have surprised me if I asked someone if it was because of their diet. A minute of your time telling them, in simple terms, it's an autoimmune condition and your body decided to have a fight with your pancreas (and won)...

Type 1: What are your HbA1c test results?

32 / 5.1. I have literally no idea how it's that low. I'm assuming exercise has something to do with it! Diagnosed April last year.

    Travelling abroad - security

I put all my needles with my pens in a clear plastic bag with only my prescription. Took that out of my bag in a tray like Nicola. Didn't even get a second look :)

    We all have bad days!

Yesterday i couldn't get it below 10 for most of the day, then climbing in the evening I had to eat sweets to avoid treat/avoid hypos! Screw bad days.

    Skiing with Type 1

I've had quite a few problems with my tester recently been too cold to test properly and giving an error so keep it warm where you can!

    Blood tests and exercise

While they say fasting, fasting does not impact your hba1c (the important one) and the normal cholesterol. The only thing fasting can impact is triglycerides (up to 20% or something, but 20% for me is about 0.18, so I'm not too fussed) and also plasma glucose level which, is basically what is...

    Blood tests and exercise

I've got a blood test on Wednesday. Hba1c, cholesterol, blood count etc (standard T1 things?) at 9:18. That means I have a perfect window for an hours swim at like 7am Will this mess anything up at all? Given that I'll have to eat something the fasting BG reading will be void, but I don't...

    Newbie

23, only type 1 for like 8 months. Used to hate needles, just get on with it and jab it in these days. I think I find managing my diabetes easier by exercising about 5 days a week at the moment. What bothers you about the needles?

Here we go again .. Plans, thoughts for the new year 2016

Do what I was planning to last year and cycle some 12000 miles around Europe (and every single **** country), without a diagnoses of diabetes messing my plans up.

    How often to test?

Usually at least 6/7 - 3 breakfast/lunch/dinner, 3 2hr-post breakfast/lunch/dinner (unless I forget) and when I go to bed. Add to this exercise/heavy drinking to basically every hour.
