    Wake Up Call, please advise

Hello, I thought I'd offer my 2p worth to your story. It's great that you are on Liraglutide and that you are taking things seriously. Liraglutide is a class of drug called a GLP-1 agonist and it does 3 things. It slows down stomach emptying so you should feel fuller for longer. It...

Anonymous Question Why did they stop making pork insulin?

I was on Human insulins (mealtime Actrapid, Novorapid, Humalog, background Tresiba, Monotard, Lantus). I was diagnosed in 1986 and started on the apparently superior Human insulins. After 20 years I experienced all the major signs of problems with Human insulin as reported on the IDDT website...

Live a long & complication free life

I became a diabetic in 1986. At the time I remember counting carbohydrate exchanges and testing my urine with clinitest tablets! A blue colour was 0% and an orange colour was 5% which meant high blood sugar! I used the ‘NEW’ Actrapid and Monotard Human insulin. I was 10 years old. I took a...

    Afrezza inhaled fast acting insulin

Afrezza Update. So I am now approaching year 3 on Afrezza (I started September 2015). No problems to report and perfect glycemic control. My latest HbA1c is 5.8% I feel much better than when on Novorapid and Humalog. I will never go back. Afrezza everyday every time. Brendan

    Lethargic

Thanks for the update Colin. Most GPs will not change your insulin and will refer you to your endocrinologist. Most endos won't believe that animal insulin is a good treatment for diabetics because they are heavily bought over by big pharma. There is a guideline by NICE that was updated in...

    Lethargic

Hi Colin, I am in the unique position that I managed to ditch rapid acting analogues in favour of Afezza, the inhalable insulin from the States. The transformation was amazing. Afrezza is an amazing insulin for many reasons but this is not what's of concern in this thread. I have tried...

Help please from people who use Porcine insulin...

Artemis, Are you still on porcine insulin and how are you getting on. I want to try it too. I have just read the August 2015 guidelines from NICE: 1.7.9 If an adult with type 1 diabetes has a strong preference for an alternative mealtime insulin, respect their wishes and offer the preferred...

    Lethargic

Here is my update. So I did have some Novorapid in the fridge from my affair with an insulin pump some time ago that didn't work for me. I took Novorapid today and I feel a lot better. I have done this before where I was feeling poorly on Novorapid and then I switched to Humalog and have been...

    Lethargic

I have had some independent advice on Porcine. I have heard that your dosages can lessen on Porcine and this will also help with weight loss. Using Humalog my weight fluxuates a lot and I feel very sweaty all the time, bloated, exhausted and generally unwell. I am speaking to my diabetes centre...

    Afrezza inhaled fast acting insulin

Hi Mate, The person in Leeds is getting it on the NHS. There is a UK based distributor who is distributing on behalf of Mannkind. I have the details if it helps you. Brendan

    Afrezza inhaled fast acting insulin

It is expensive in the UK. Mannkind are working on this. Tim, have you found a distributor in the UK?

    Afrezza inhaled fast acting insulin

Hi Tim, Thanks for posting your experience. I have had similar too. You also handled the objections very well. The point is that if you are a true T1D, you will know how food affects you and once you try Afrezza, you will be amazed at its ability to normalise BG levels within range and keep...

    Afrezza inhaled fast acting insulin

Hi There, I see your concerns. Afrezza is not like any other insulin on the market. You need to forget about carb counting and exact dosages with Afrezza. A 4 unit of AFrezza is not the same as a 4 unit dose of injectable. There will come a time when the manufacturers will do away with...

    Afrezza inhaled fast acting insulin

Afrezza has been amazing, completely levelling my BG with very little effort and making me feel well. My energy was fantastic. I cannot fault it. You need more basal as it does not hang around as long as injectable analogues. Real time control with non diabetic numbers. What's not to like.:-)

    Afrezza inhaled fast acting insulin

News just in. Afrezza is being provided for on the NHS for a patient in Leeds. All diabetics need to demand better treatment. Afrezza provides for real time diabetic control.

    Lethargic

Let us know how you get on Colin. There is another background insulin called Tresiba which I have been using for some time. It is a Human insulin but it's completely flat for me with no peaks like Lantus. Lantus is not regarded as a full 24 hour basal and some peoplke take 2 injections a day...

A very interesting question about basal insulin (Lantus/Tresiba/Levemir).

Hi, I wanted to say that I use Tresiba at 10pm every night. I used to use Lantus at a similar time and my BG would always tend to creep up from 5pm the following day. Now my levels are completely flat. It does take time to find your dose as the literature says it lasts for a long time so my...

    weight gain

Victoza does 3 things, slows stomach emptying, reduces glucose loading from the liver and makes the beta cells work harder to produce insulin especially after meals. It works well for Type 2s. It is not licensed for Type 1s and is not prescribed in the UK for this reason. Obviously it cannot...
